Cheap Home Phone Deal

Hi - I was looking for the cheapest home phone deal in Melbourne. I am presently with Club Telco. My main cost is in National Calls and calls to mobile. I don't have cable or even ADSL access so bundled products don't hlep me. I can't use VOIP as my primary as I only have wireless access. Any advice?

Thanks

Mike

You can use Broadband Guide as well as Broadband Choice to see which 'packages' are good for you

    • Thanks but I don't think you understood my post properly. I can't get ADSL or cable and already have wireless. What I am after is the cheapest plan for a landline to make normal phone calls.

Thanks both issh and justhooked - I origianlly stupidly just clicked the Whirlpool site and could not find a home phone guide only broadband but the youcompare.com.au site does have just landline. I was hoping also that some members out there may have some personal recommendations as well

  • Companies like maxotel and pennytel have a call back feature you can use with any phone, no you dont need adsl.

You set up your account and a call in number (this being your own phone number), then when that number calls the service, it gives an engaged signal, you hang up and it calls you back, and you now can dial out with voip.

Not as cheap as voip thru adsl (but you dont have to pay for adsl.) Maxotel I recall is 10c for each leg (untimed and no flagfall) this is for nationwide calling. So your total cost is 10c plus 10c = 20c for untimed calls nationwide.

My sister cant have adsl - rim service or something like that and we set this up for her and she call even call the USA for 2c a minute plus the 10c return call to her number which is untimed.

I posted this in more detail here a few years back

  • Thanks ozpete, that is a great deal. I may have trouble convincing the far better half to make the 2 calls instead of 1 but I may get lucky 50% of the time. Can anyone advise what the cheapest line rental available is?

    • Telstra homeline budget around $21, and program the access number onto a speed dial on your phone, then all she does is press the key, and the system prompts her when it calls back.

We used it as a backup when we lost power, ie our internet went down. The missus got used to it, and she did like seeing the reduced phone bill. Cant use it now as we have the Telstra naked adsl trial and only number we can dial out via telstra line is telstra support. We rely on Voip totally for all outgoing calls

      • Thanks again ozpete - can I swap my wife for a short period for you to train her??????? ;-)

        • simple - some chocos or flowers - with note its from the savings on the phone works wonders, as for the swap you might lose more than you gain… LOL

  • consider iPrimus Home Choice 49 - $0 line rental, $49 call value

alternatively similar AAPT Home Chatâ„¢ Starter which includes 13/1300 calls (iPrimus doesn't)
    http://residential.aapt.com.au/phone/home-chat-starter

    both available without contract
