Description

ASTRONOMY DAY SALE! FREE THRU 9 MAY 2011!

SkySafari Lite is a celestial travel guide. It's an easy-to-use planetarium program app to help you explore the night sky. It is brought to you by Southern Stars, previously the mobile application division of Carina Software.

SkySafari Lite is the intro version of SkySafari, our professional iPhone astronomy software. SkySafari Lite shows you nearly 120,000 stars, plus 220 of the best-known star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies in the sky. It displays all the major planets and moons of the Solar System using NASA spacecraft imagery, and includes a database of several dozen asteroids, comets, and artificial satellites.

For advanced users, the full version of SkySafari (SkySafari Pro) contains a much larger database of 2.5 million stars and 31,900 deep sky objects. If you have a computer-controlled GoTo telescope, SkySafari can use your iPhone or iPod's built-in WiFi to point your telescope in the sky.

  • Awesome, it seems I can run this on my Touch! Could save me a trip to the South Park Plane-arium! ;)

I don't have an ipod, but it doesn't stop me from hoarding free apps.

    • Yes - I have about 100 iPad and iPod and iPhone apps, but the only apple product in my house is next tot he banana in the fruit bowl. The banana cost more then an iPod as well….

  • "sky safari" is a great reference tool for finding the constellations in the night sky, and another good freebie is "planets". download them both and see which of them you find easier to use. both are terrific, but both have their limitations that the other one covers.

  • Interesting thanks!

  • What's it like compared to Redshift?

    • I've sampled pretty much every star app and i think skysafari pro is the best, although redshift and starmap are very comparable. They all have minor differences which may or may not suit you, so its hard to say

  • 'star walk' is the best. It uses the internal digital compass to allow you to hold your device up into the night sky and identify anything you can see with the naked eye and amateur telescopes. Simply amazing. I deleted ski safari after installing as it was not as good in my opinion. But its not free :(

    • skysafari also has this feature - you just shake the iphone/ipod to active it.

star walk is cool but it's a bit gimmicky. if you're an amateur astronomer it's not really in the same league as skysafari pro/redshift/starmap. it looks pretty but lacks the finer detail that make the other apps better. it is a lot cheaper though.

      • How do they all compare to Google Sky Map?

  • Cheers…
