Weber Baby Q goes chernobyl and has a meltdown

My Weber Baby Q has suffered another major failure and the legs of the metal cook box have melted through the plastic frame.

First time this happened I rang up Weber and they sent me replacements parts.

But this time around I must have got the Trump of the Weber world because they are calling it a "thermal event" and refusing to replace or refund.

I quoted the ACCC website to them since I feel they would be in breach of contract on the warranty and consumer law but much like Trump they apparently don’t think the law applies to them.

Any suggestions for other courses of action I can take?

Cheers!

Plus, and I must be honest here, when it is not spontaneously combusting I love cooking on it, it is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

  • I don’t think you’re allowed to use those particular f words on ozbargain.

  • can you re-write this normally?

    • Removed some paragraphs for you. I'm leaving the Trump and Ferris Bueller references. Tell me if you approve.

Hung up and call back, see if you get someone different and try again.

    • I suspect it's a small office. When you ring up they put you onto the person managing your case. I guess I could try and "ask to speak to a manager".

How did this happen? Did you turn the heat to maximum and close the lid and walk away? This shouldn't happen under normal usage so I suspect you have done something silly.

  • Never let it heat up more than 10 minutes. Never had a fire, fat fire or other incident of that nature. Never cooked with the lid up (apparently that isn't good for it either).

I have read the Weber book of words. Watched the Weber DVD and followed all the advise Weber gave me to avoid this happening again.

I use all genuine Weber accessories. I have had a Weber for multiple years and cook on it multiple times a week using the same methods day in day out.

I guess hot metal on plastic just gives up after a while.
