@JediJan: Yes, but what bargainparker is saying, buy a $4.90 SIM every 30 days (and toss the old one).

The only 'problems' with this are:

            1. You need a spare SIM on-hand to activate each new SIM on day 31 (just order a spare SIM for $2, or, order as many $4.90 SIMs in one order, that you can activate within the expiry period).

            2. You can't port your number out then back in within 30 days. So you have to either tell everyone your new number every 30 days, or buy two to get 80GB + calls for $9.80/m, and just tell everyone your two phone numbers - and take turns porting one out then back in after 30 days. (If someone can't get you on one number, they phone the other.)

Note: I'm not sure if you can do #2 exactly on day 30 - it might have to be day 31. (I don't bother - I just take the new number like in point 1 - and annoying everyone sending them my new number.) So there might be that 1 extra day where one of your numbers is not accessible.

            Example:

            • Day 1 you activate SIM #1, porting in your existing phone number.
            • Day 30 you port your first phone number out, and activate SIM #2. Then tell everyone to add that second phone number into their address book (but to leave the first number in there too - and to try both from now one, until they get through to you).
            • Day 60 (or 61) you port out SIM #2's phone number. And port SIM #1's number back in, now that 30 (or 31) days have passed.
            • And so on.
            • @GregMonarch: I have a few (3) spare sim cards never used if interested. Every time I recharge they send me new ones …

              • +1

@JediJan: LOL. I have about 8 spare myself, but thanks. ;-) I was thinking about living in a campervan, ditching my $70/100GB/m Optus plan, and using only these $4.90/40GB Kogan SIMs for internet. But I had a lot of downloads last month and had to activate several - so now I'm concerned about this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/444193

                • @GregMonarch: Have used a medley of "new" Vodafone and Kogan Mobile sims for data when travelling and also for my Mother; who is still waiting … waiting … for NBN.

Couldn't handle changing mobile numbers for our phones though; hard enough to keep up with all these data ones lol!

These "new" offers are also great for our overseas visitors, if you can put them in your or family members names.

Ps. I just responded to the other post. 😊

Pps. Am paying $60 for Belong NBN unlimited at home. We only use mobiles for calls.

  • bought 1

    • why not upvote the deal then

  • Does anyone have experience porting in/out of Boost Mobile? I'm with Kogan.

    • +2

I had no problems. You won't be able to port to/from Boost from Telstra and vice versa

Pretty much instant when I ported my dad's across. Going to do this tonight for my son as well.

  • Can i use this in mobile broadband device like this assuming its unlocked?

    • Yes, but cannot confirm about the Telstra wifi modems / dongles. I believe the Post Office had a good deal going with the Vodafone 4G wifi modems about a month ago; about $20 I think.

      • +1

updated the comment with a new device
I missed that AUPOST deal i guess, will keep an eye on it

        • +1

Yes, Kogan wifi modem is made for the Kogan sims. We have used our Vodafone wifi modems for many years now; handy to take with us when traveling. Vodafone also had a fairly good data deal (new customer) going recently; $9.90 for $40 40GB … 28 days I think.

Another deal recently expired on OzBargain had some Vodafone $30 sims going for half price, then even reduced a further 50%! Bonus data etc.

With 5G coming I imagine all 4G wifi modems will be coming down in price.

            i like it :)

          • @JediJan: Can the modem be used to forward to an existing router?
So basically instead of plugging in my NBN box, I can plug this in the WAN port of my home router.
Thinking of using this for backup as we've had a few outages.

any cheap Vodafone 4G Wifi Modem that we buy ATM?

    • +1

Also interested. Can just use old phone but would prefer dedicated modem.

    • A decent multi purpose router for Kogan sims and Vodafone of course is the current Vodafone Prepaid 4G pocket wifi you can often find on sale for half price $29-$39. It has rechargable battery, so can put it where you get best signal.

Also the Optus/Huawei E5573 ( used to be unlocked by default ) is also a really good one but missing the 850mHz band used by Vodafone, but works better for me sometimes for Telstra than a Telstra 4GX pocket wifi, do figure lol.

  • Perfect. My Amaysim expired today, and have a spare Kogan SIM lying around.

  • I assume that one would need to buy $2 sim as well so its $16.90. Correct me if I am wrong.

      Includes free SIM

  • What happens after 90 days?

Does it put u on a prepaid service? How much will it be?

    • I think you can go into your account after you set it up, and turn off automatic reactivations or whatever it's called

  • Hi there
I have 40 days remaining on my current Catch Connect plan. Can I purchase voucher and reactivate it after 40 days?

    • +4

You can purchase now and you will have up until the 15th of May to activate.

      • Voucher expires 15/05/2019

  • +1

Nice if only it was 40gb data, I use the $4.95 42gb of data sums every month.

  • +1

I rang up and confirmed if you are with Vodafone you qualify for this. Going to make the switch and then probably jump to boost afterward when the 90 days is up

  • Anyone else have this problem with activated a Kogan account?
During the last two activations, the verification system (in Europe) just hung.
I had to ring up and get the philipine operators to activate the sim manually.
They said I entered the wrong info, but at that stage of signup it's not possible. Name, their verified address and some other reliable detail (I can't remember which) that can't be wrong.

    • +1

Yep, happened to me a few times too. Can be any different/wrong info we entered, or just flagged something and then need to call to activate.

Happens with me with Telstra many times as I must come up as a regular simslut lol.

  • I wish there was cashback on Kogan, catch connect have the 54gb for $15 with $5 cashback

  • +1

Heated! I bought one for my kid (currently on the 3 months $15 catch Connect) . If these deals keep coming out I will probably do the same for all my family sims. It then costs only $5 a month. A bit of a pain changing every 3 months (at least for
Me as I will need to keep an eye on 4 sims) but worth it for the savings

Just a tip for porting over, if possible avoid porting late Friday especially on Saturday, even just before a public holiday as you can hang for a day or more ( sometimes even without the use of receiving calls/txt on your old number ).

I sometimes port over one say early if Saturday, or let credit expire a day or two until Monday/after public holiday ( as I always have more than one sim available for calls/txt/data ).

Been happening to me more and more in the last year or so, especially with Catch Connect and Kogan.

      • +1

        Thanks for the tip!

  • Does the SIM auto come in the mail after ordering?

    • +3

Yes you will receive the sim in the mail after a few days.
