Good deal but FYI this looks like the older model. Technically the same, but slightly heavier and messier cables.

I didn't know of this. Just did a little research and here's what I found:

"They are all the same unless you are talking about Vive Pre which was basically the developer kit before they were officially released.

The only "real" difference you might find in the Vive isn't the Vive itself, but the cable/straps they come with. The original consumer Vives all came with a 3-in-1 cable that is basically three cables glued together into one, as well as really thin wrist straps for the controllers.

In the past 6 months, they've released a new 3-in-1 cable that is much more like the Oculus in which it's just one single thicker cable, and stronger wrist straps for the controllers.

There is nothing wrong with the old cable though, other than it tangles a bit easier. The Vive headset/boxes themselves are exactly the same though."

I bought mine from Microsoft about a year ago, I will have to check the cable out in more detail.

    • Here's a link I found if anyone is interested: https://www.vrheads.com/htc-vive-you-can-buy-now-very-differ…

I haven't used mine in a month or so, I'll check it out and report back whether it's the old version or not.

Should be the newer version I would have thought as the old ones would have been the first proper retail units. Should have went out of production when the new model released early 2017

    • From the pictures, it looks like it comes with the Deluxe Audio Strap, but it's not mentioned anywhere. If it does come with the DAS, it's almost certainly the newer stock.

      • I don't see any DAS in the pics?

        • wait you're right, I can't trust my eyes when I'm tired

Wouldn't trust the pictures. I bought one from techmall about a month ago and it showed pics of the old version. Got the new one with 3-in-1 cable which was a nice surprise.

I wouldn't be buying this at the moment with GDC around the corner - Valve may have some hardware announcements.

    • Surely whatever is announced wont be available for a while and will be super expensive initially anyway?

      • That and VR is virtually dead… awaits hate

Though was it ever alive to begin with?

It's cost prohibitive for most and as such developers don't join in….

          It's cost prohibitive

That's where home PCs started, and look where we are now…

          • @Payne: Like 3D Televisions? I can name many devices that failed miserably….

There are many publications/people that share my view on that.

When someone's discussing if something has a future, chances are, it probably doesn't.

It needs a lot of further work.

            • @scuderiarmani:

I can name many devices that failed miserably

And I can name many that succeeded. I guess we'll wait and see.

      • I love my Vive - but the Vive is 3 years old now. I'm hoping for knuckles to be announced, but there's rumours of a Valve headset - even if it's 6 months away, I'd be waiting.

I'm waiting for Oculus Quest. How much will that cost?

    • +3

Coming in 2019. Starting at $399 USD*
