[Joke Post] Selling Item Internationally on eBay over 2000 AUD - Payment Method

So I am selling an item to a buyer via eBay or outside of eBay.

What is the safest way to do this?

The eBay account buyer is from new york but he wants the item shipped to his cousin in West Africa.

Everything so far seems legit but unsure what is the best method for international.

I have bank deposit and PayPal for now but if there is anything safer for me the seller I would love to hear about it.

The item is a CC9025-51E used but in good condition.. Which retails for roughly 3200 AUD so managed to sell it for 2200 AUD (item + postage)

Also as a seller do I need to sign any declaration form or tax or gst sending it overseas and it is over 1000 AUD or is that for only buying items and getting them imported in.

I am essentially exporting atm.

Thanks for any help and feedback.

I just don't want to try something like PayPal and then be refunds it somehow or a dispute and charge back etc.

No rush on the postage but I will most likely be using Australia post unless you have any other better international services to West Africa.

    • There are no dumb questions on ozbargain. But there sure are some great answers.

      • Thanks TB sometimes I fell really bad for some of my questions but I always know there is a possibility than another may need the dumb question so in turn I ask :)

Alarm bells, when then buyers shipping address doesn't match their location.

Why isn't his cousin buying it then with his account?

Also ship to the address they say on the paypal payment (if you use it), otherwise always ship to the address listed in the auction/sale email if you want the ebay protections etc.

Shipping to addresses outside of these has many dangers.

If its africa then thats it gg.

  • Is this a legit post? As for the actual question. Bank Deposit 100%. Aus post. Ha.

  • This is almost certainly a scam!

Tell him western union. It's a scam. He'll ask for your email then send you a fake paypal receipt.

I'm sorry but what. How does "everything so far" seem legit for an international buyer in NY wanting goods shipped to W. Africa?

Always make sure that the eBay account address and the Paypal address match up, and only post, with tracking, to this address.

But even then, it's far from safe and very easy for a buyer to scam you.

Edit: Also, AlienC! I've seen your posts and comments around here, where the heck did you get a CC9025-51E?!

    • Yeah it was a scam just got excited lol

But yeah he cannot pay or even fake payment so it is gg report and block account

    This is surely a troll?

What is the safest way to do this?

    Don't

Probably a stolen account, the payment will likely be reversed down the track.

    • Yeah it is.. it is a 2004 account with only 2 activities total and none in the past 12 months

He tried to use a western name also but the address pointed to a Nigerian address and name

Really? Member since 2011, a heap of posts..

You're either trolling (which seems sad for an established bargainer) or ready to get scammed (also sad for an established ozbargainer)

I just got excited but I already have all the knowledge but I always put the ozbargain brains trust over mine obviously lol so wanted some confirmation.

But yeah didn't take long for me to realise this was a scam lol

don't worry I did not ship out anything

      just got prematurely happy

The safest way to do it is to run away as quickly as possible.

This is guaranteed to turn out badly for you - IF it's actually true.

After you conduct the sale I've a bridge you might be interested in buying from the money you've made.

    facepalm

  • Get them to pay in iTunes gift cards.
