Qantas Frequent Flyer - Debit Card - Any Advice?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at ditching my NAB Qantas Premium Credit Card and was thinking of going debit card path. More for the fact that I'm looking at purchasing a home rather soon and don't want any credit checks now.

The current options that I can see on a quick search are:

  1. Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account: 5 points/purchase + 12 points for every $100 in the account
  2. Qantas Cash Card: 1 Point/$4 spent

Basically, spend less than $10, use BankWest, more than $10 Use Qantas Card.

Any thoughts, ideas or other options?

You can earn QFF points without QFF credit/debit cards to keep membership active.

Woolworths Rewards Points transfer, linked Mastercard Offers, Online shopping.

Just choose whatever the best that suits your need, not being limited to QFF.

    • Didn't downvote you.

However, I'm not shopping from ColeWool anymore as I can't justify the price tag. My groceries spending went down about 30% just by shopping somewhere else like other, smaller markets and Aldi.

      • Giftcards offers are good ways to get multiple 2000 points fast.

        • Yup, good idea. I'm looking for long term solution, trying to ditch NAB actively.

  • The Bankwest card is fine, I have one from a 10K promo a year ago. You will have to be somewhat resigned to the fact that it won't net you a lot of points, but you can optimize your point earn by using it for smaller transactions. Don't go too crazy, Bankwest have banned people for doing tiny 1c transactions but if you use it to pay your coffees in the morning you get a nice 5 point earn each time.

To be honest it’s not worth worrying about if your not pumping a few thousand spend a month through a 1:1 ratio credit card. The cards you mentioned above will net you a few thousand QFF point a year at best which is nothing.

Just wait til you buy the house then sign up for some 80k to 100k promos and you’ll be far better off than fluffing about with debit cards for little gain.

    • With this being said, for OP, the gist is to keep the membership active till next sign up bonus. Just need an activity during any given 18 months.

    • You are right. That was my thought as well.

  • Yes 5 points per eligible spend < $10
They have been cracking down on people spending $0.01 transactions to get 5 points
Its only worth it if you're buying something < $5

    • yeah, thinking coffee, etc.
