How Do I Stop My Roller Door from Squeaking?

My roller door squeaks when going up (but not down). A bit of googling said clean the guides with Mr Sheen which I did and it still sqeaks. I am a bit hesitant to go spray lubricant every where as I don't want the guides to get greasy and look shitty.

Here is some pics (sorry my ms paint is shit)

EDIT - I was running it up and down to try and work out where the squeaking was coming from and it stopped, so I guess the Mr Sheen worked.

  • Well lubed interfaces usually do look "shitty" - decide if you want squeaks or squeaky clean.

  • can you stick some felt in the guides?

  • It depends on the design. My roller door had a large internal spring inside the main barrel that would offset the weight of the roller panel. I found this was the cause of squeaks for mine. The remedy was to get a spray can of lithium grease and basically coat the visible surface of the spring.
    It never squeaked again.

    • This. Same issue with mine. Still got one squeaky one, despite a couple of attempts at lubing it.

      • I had to stick a small pipe on the end of my spray nozzle (the ones that come stuck to the side of WD40 cans) to give me the velocity to get grease right down the full length of the barrel. Might be worth a shot if you haven't already tried.

    Spray it down with WD40.

Read the maintenance instructions in your garage door - chances are you'll need to lubricate moving parts regularly and with an actual lubricant, not Mr Sheen. Ours is once a year with silicone spray on the door parts, machine lubricant on the chain, and all purpose grease on the spring. Only takes like 5-10 mins once a year and reduced squeaking from all components, not just the track.

Good advice, I will have to google it as it was installed by the previous owner.

  • Look for some bicycle dry lubricant, probably with PTFE.

I use this on every moving part and my double sectional door does not squeak. Spray required every 6 months. Do not use normal wd40. Mr sheen is a very short term fix.

I think you forgot to link.

        • I didn't know there was a specific lubricant, thanks for that.

Do you spray in the guides on the side?

@[Deactivated]: Anything that slides, rotates, swings, spins and flips gets a good squirt of this lube for garage door silence.

    lol.

  • Silicone spray will stop the squeaks and won’t attract dirt and dust

youtube tells me, never lube the guides, lithium grease the spring

  • So just lube the spring (inside and outside) holding the door? On the hinges and chain but No rollers and roller guides?

Tempted to go grab that can from Bunnings. https://www.bunnings.com.au/3-in-one-300g-professional-garag…

I have used silicone spray but was advised not to on any part of the garage .

We have got thin walls so it radiates through the house loudly.
