Hey guys.
I've been getting into audiobooks and I'm chasing a reliable music player.
I've got power amp pro. I've tried pi music, Samsung music player and a bunch more, but I find they often forget my position, fast forward terribly or refuse to play/skip some files.
Do you have any recommendations?
I found Power Amp to be better because with their last update, their ability to scroll (fast forward or reverse) through MP3's is much improved, this is considering some Audiobook MP3s are hours long so just in case you lose your spot it's easy to get their again.
I really like Smart Audio Book Player. I used the free version for a few years before eventually upgrading to the full version for a couple of dollars.
When you resume playback it automatically rewinds a little bit based on how long its been paused for. ie if you only just paused it it might rewind a second, if it's been paused for hours or day it'll rewind minutes.
Second this. Even paid for it because it's so good.
Tells me how long I have left.
Syncs across multiple devices (if you have multiple).
Can easily switch books and it remembers its place.
The automatic rewind is great functionality. When I hop back in the car it automatically plays a 30 seconds or so back and I automatically know where I am.
Probably other functionality I don't use but is great.
I got a 2nd or 3rd gen ipod, the original ipods are very good with audio books.
For audio books I've found having a player specifically made for them makes a huge difference. My favourites are Smart AudioBook Player mentioned above and Listen Audiobook Player. Both of them are in the play store.
PocketCasts is a podcast app, but I'm you can add custom podcasts/episodes/mp3s, which could just be audiobooks. It's a very good podcast app, so it should be very good for audiobooks with a little setup. iphone version doesnt have that feature I think, so I can't really comment.
although, I just checked reddit and it looks like they recently got acquired and a new update may have broken this feature. so maybe you could search around for an older .apk file or something
Or look for another podcast app that plays custom files. They tend to be a bit more developed than audiobook apps, with features like fine-grained fastplay and autoskipping any silence
