Email deal keyword alerts, any way to EXCLUDE competitions and cut back on the OZB email spam?

I must have had hundreds of spam emails form ozbargain about bloody competitions, because I signed up for keyword email alerts on certain deals. except probably 149 out of every 150 emails is from competitions instead of deals? Is there any way to exclude competitions from these alerts, it's greatly cut down on the spam I get from ozbargain for competitions I have absolutely no interest in even knowing about.

  • You can fine tune your search alerts using the drop down boxes. Example: to search for 'burger' only in non-expired deals and in the Dining Category, do this:

    • Alerts seem to ignore those filters as far as I can tell?

Ah, that's right. I think I know what the issue is. Creating a search alert based on the 'dropdown box' search doesn't work because all it's doing is creating a search based on what's in the textbox, and it's ignoring the URL parameters completely.

To create a search alert with filters enabled, you need to input some extra options

so in your hypothetical case, if you were interested in flights to Japan for example, with options to limit the search to deals and with mentions of Japan in the deal title within travel category, it you would enter these options into a single line

        Japan option:titleonly type:ozbdeal cat:travel

and then create a search alert based on that search query.

This would be a good feature, when I apply filters for deals only or certain categories, the alert created off that search ignores all those filters.
If 'create alert' used whatever filters and keywords were in the search it would make the email notifications much more useful.
