Looking for a Good Cheap Mattress

Hey! I've been looking for a new mattress and I have no idea what to get.

I'm a side sleeper so kind of looking for a medium firmness. I only need it to last a few years and really don't want to pay thousands if I can find a decent one for cheap.

Options I'm considering:

Amart/Fantastic furniture mattresses around $400 - $600
Mattress in a box from Big W,
A Koala/other brand foam mattress (hesitant to go for a foam mattress)

Does anyone have any experience with cheap mattresses? Any help or recommendations would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Update: Hey everyone, thanks so much for the suggestions, all super helpful! I ended up going with the zzz atelier mattress, just waiting for delivery. Cheers :)

    someone has to sell them.

in SA we bought them from a now closed one-off furniture shop. They were Sealy branded singles, very cheap.

i am happy with their mattresses. I am a side sleeper too and i bought a medium firm single company via ebay.
Deals are often enough if you can wait. otherwise it is still cheap anyway.

i think this would be a decent option considering you only want to use it for few years
I'd probably would choose this one over Aldi's

    • I have one of these and they're great. Comments on that post are generally all positive. They are great value.

Aldi is also selling mattresses this week. 60 day satisfaction guarantee so you can buy and try.

    • Anyone tried it, any good?

    • I'd consider Aldi, but I live in Hobart.. we are an Aldi free zone :'(

My only experience with cheap mattresses led to me going out and buying a more expensive mattress because they are rubbish.

    • Yeah you REALLY shouldn't cheap out on things like mattresses, pillows, shoes

    • I bought a $4k sealy on sale for $2.5. Pocket springs, latex top layer. It lasted me 12 years. I just thought I would try an Eva mattress for $750. It is literally the same thing in both feel and quality of final finish. I would never pay more than $1k every, choice debunked this as well.

      • Hey how did the Eva mattress go? Was thinking of getting a Noa as it's a hybrid but came across the Eva ones which sound the same but they seem like they have slightly better pocket springs than the Noa. Originally wanted to get an Ecosa but I was worried about all the heat retention with a full memory foam mattress. After a medium-firm which all of the above seem to be.

Hey there, it's been quite a few weeks. We really love it. It feels just like a regular mattress but with much less partner disturbance. Edges are very supportive as I sleep on the edge. I have been getting a sore back although not sure why. Very airy as we live in Brisbane, had it during a few really hot nights. Let me know if you have more specific questions

          • @onlinepred: Cheers for the reply. Glad to hear that it's not too hot for you up north. I'm in Sydney so it's not too bad but the bedroom I need the mattress in is quite sun-drenched and we have sweaty sleepers haha.. Might just give Eva a go. I also have a Sealy that was purchased on sale from Myer for the main bedroom so that comparison is handy. Appreciate your feedback!

            • @kaebomb: You've looked at Sleeping Duck yea?

              • @onlinepred: Have glanced at it but it's a bit pricier compared to Eva and Noa which are only $650 for a double after discounts right now. Will turn to SD if these ones don't work out

  • i bought one of these during a 20% off ebay deal from Ozplaza for the guest room.

both guests who have slept on it said it was very comfortable.

  • I got a (sleepmaker?) mattress for $800 from Myer during their (every other weekend) 40% off sale. I’ve had it for about 7 years. It has yet to lose its shape like my previous cheapo mattress and is still super comfy. I’d advise against buying a no name mattress from a budget chain furniture shop, been there, done that, don’t miss the back pain.

  • IKEA? $700-800 good ones

Recently bought this IKEA one, it's great. 399 for a single

    • Got one like this for spare room, its great

      • Yup. Bought a King single couple of years ago and it's very good.

    • I've got a Queen, and I love it! Very, very comfortable (I'm also a side sleeper, and was having trouble with my hips with my previous mattress).

ZZZ Atelier, these mattresses are just as good as those costing ~1.5k. You can get them starting from like $200 on sale.. well worth a try.

    • Agree, been very happy with mine - think I paid around $300 on sale for a queen

i saw one under a bridge this morning, it stunk but pretty sure yours if you want it

+1 for ZZZ Atelier. They regularly have 20% off sales listed on Ozbargain

  • Wonderrest came in at no. 2 on the choice test and they are $499. No idea how good they are but pretty impressive that they beat Sealy etc

  • I bought a Sleeping Duck mattress a bit over a year ago and am very happy with it. Check out their website. Based in Melb, but I think they ship anywhere in Oz. I couldn’t fault their customer service.

  • I read it mistress in the first glance.

  • Any recommendations for a single bed mattress have a batman bed coming for 3 and half yr old son and need to grab a mattress but nothing's too expensive.
My thoughts where sleep tight from fantastic furniture comes in box,Aldi had ones in box but don't believe available now, ikea not sure how these are, or any good deals on ebay? Problem I find eBay but nes are $70 to $89 for postage so don't want that.
The bed I need mattress for.
