agree the design and purpose is same with the older backbeat FIT. the tip is just sit on your ear canals, not blocking it. i actually prefer this way.

Good deal and good product, I have the original backbeat fit, use and sweat into it nearly every day and battery still holds 7hrs of charge. I use it for running, cycling, washing the car in the driveway when neighbors stop by for a chat etc. I would still go with the 2100 for the extra 2hrs battery, also with each end being connected to each-other, you can hang it off your neck when you want them off your head.
The 2100 model seems to have the same specs as the 3100, but are $56 cheaper. All you are getting is individual ear connectors rather than having them connected. That is my understanding. If that's correct, 2100 would seem a better buy. Plus 2 hours extra battery life.
review here, will not suit those who wants to block out noise:

The BackBeat 3100 is designed for a specific kind of person: a runner or cyclist who wants an ultrasecure fit and the ability to easily hear outdoor noise. If bass-forward audio to fuel your workouts is high-priority and if you want to be able to filter out ambient sound, then go for Jabra's Elite Active 65t, still our top pick for completely wireless workout headphones.
