Wanting to Add Bluetooth and Reversing Cam to 2002 Toyota Prado

Hi All,

I am wanting to add Bluetooth and a Reversing Cam to 2002 Toyota Prado. I am an absolute novice and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Advice on where to purchase, get installed, what to spend for the equipment and what to expect to pay to get it installed would be great for anyone out there happy to give some guidance.

Came across these two which seemed like they would do the job but, like I said, I really know nothing!

You should be able to get a reverse camera a whole heap cheaper than $$149. You can buy them online for around $15. No comment on the head unit.

  • As above, get the cheaper reverse cam. Head Unit looks fine, could always pay more for Apple Carplay or Android Auto. Whatever you do, don't get a no-name brand unit off eBay/AliExpress.

I'd suggest trying to find a pro to install, as it might be a bit much for you hooking up the reverse cam and bt microphone (need a bit of know-how to wire it up properly). Best bet is your local booze buy & sell page on FB. Many pros don't mind doing cash jobs on the weekend/weeknights.

  • Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for your responses and for putting in the time to help!
    Cheers!

OP, where are you located? I run a business specialising in technology for Toyota (primarily a Kenwood dealer, but happy to do other supplied quality name brand stuff as well). Happy to assist if you're close enough - OzB mates rates.

edit: going by one of your posts about houses, it looks like you're in Vic. Sorry…

Also, 2002 is when Toyota switched the Prado from the 90 series to 120 series, which is yours? If the latter, you'll need 10mm side trims for the head unit to fill the 200mm OEM Toyota hole. You can either buy ISO harnesses to match the Toyota's factory plugs, or crimp pins that fit the terminals of the plugs. Nothing else needed, antenna is standard ISO, no Steering Wheel Controls on Prado back then, so no need to worry about SWC adapters.

Keep in mind also your camera will be offset because of the position of the number plate appliqué.

    • Hi mate,
Thanks for responding and the possibility of OzB mates rates! I'm in Geelong and sounds like VIC is no good for you.

Apparently, there is no need for side trims its the 2001 model but purchased in 2002.

I have been to Autobahn and JB Hi-Fi and both said around $250 for installation. Would you be able to give me an idea of what is a fair price to pay for install? Also, someone said to avoid buying a rear camera from eBay like the Pioneer one above because they have experienced problems with stuff like that. Logic tells me with 107 of them sold and 99.9% positive feedback I should have no concerns. Any advice?

Thanks for the heads up about the camera positioning.

Thanks once again for all your help!

      • $250 is about the average for a shop, sounds like they've allowed 2 hours. The Pioneer cam should be okay, it's a straightforward NTSC cam like most other aftermarket quality brand cams.

        • Cheers! Do you think its worth trying to find someone to do a back yard job cheaper or stick with places with a reputation?

          • @MrFizz: I'm a simple one-man mobile operation. If you can find someone down your way similar to me with good ratings on FB/Google etc. you might be able to save some $$$. Be careful with backyarders, there might be one or two good ones out there, but I've seen some horrible backyard workmanship as well from time to time.

            • @PinzVidz: Thanks for getting back to me once again! Your help is really valuable!

              Cheers
