  • Don't forget 4.9% cashrewards with iTunes

    • How do you actually get it? Since I can’t buy through a website. (Or am I mistaken?)

      • iTunes app on a computer, iPhone or Apple TV. Maybe others.

  • +3

The 3rd movie is honestly a totally different movie in the extended cut but the other two you can understand why a lot of scenes got given the axe

    • +3

True. Though I can no longer watch the theatrical editions of any of these movies anymore without feeling like they’re too rushed.

      • +5

Frodo climbing the mountain is rushed?

I thought I’d never be more bored in my life. Then the “gold madness” scene in the Hobbit came along.

        • +1

Oi! It was an emotional journey, okay?

If this does get remastered in 4K there's an extremely good chance you'll get upgraded for free.

    • Any suggestion it's coming? I have Jurassic Park in 4K, but TBH, doesn't seem to look it…

      • +1

I had a look around and didn't see any mention of it, a good first sign is to check the US version on iTunes, they'll get the 4k before us, alas not 4k there either, still for $16.09 it's worth the gamble for myself

    • Sounds interesting…

      What makes you say this?

      • +1

Because iTunes give free 4K upgrades from HD when a movie is made available in 4K.
I Have no idea if it’s going to be remastered, just that iTunes would most likely give you the upgrade for free if they do.

  • This is also on Stan FYI.

    • Extended?

      • +1

Yep sure are. Although having said that it seems they've damnwell removed Fellowship recently?!

  • 15% off iTunes cards @ woolies this week too!

  • So tempted to pull the trigger

  • Nuuuuuuuu I bought the 3 movies separately a couple of weeks ago (Standard Edition)

i thought itunes was a music player software.

    Do people actually use it?

    • iTunes is the default media player for Apple devices, particularly relevant for Apple TV which is a highly rated (and recommended) plug and play streaming device.

      • -2

        right…
I don't think I've ever paid for 'streaming'.

        • Congrats?

        • You can still use the Apple TV to stream "stuff" from your local network to your TV, including 4K "stuff" ;)

          • @oz-stef: Yep, Infuse to stream my 4K remuxes from Google Drive

            • @theguyrules: Hood on, you keep all your video files on drive and then stream from the cloud every time you watch something? Isn't your download usage huuuuge each month?

              • @JuryWheel: I've only just started doing it. But I have 1.5TB download a month, and half the time my ISP doesn't track the data usage, so I really don't worry at all.

          • @oz-stef: Can't you do that with a chromecast?

            • +1

@conservative: You can transcode stuff to a Chromecast. That is basically your computer re-encoding it on the fly (if powerful enough, or producing a low quality enough picture). A 4K remux will not be sent as a 4K remux.

        • sorry, think I may have used the wrong term.

  • For anyone's who's bought this, does it include any extras? Like director's comments, behind the scenes, deleted scenes sort of stuff?

  • Bought the extended versions on blu ray in a box set from Amazon UK years ago for about $56 Aus but would double dip if they ever get released on 4k

  • So if you buy the extended version can you go to the menu and choose to watch the normal version?

    • Don't think so

  • Is this the edition where you get to see the full eight courses of hobbit breakfasts before moving on the morning tea? Glorious

  • If I buy this can I access it from any apple device or is it a single access

    • +1

Any Apple device where the same account is signed in.

      • Is there any way of having a family account so it doesn't matter if my wife or I are signed in,, everything is shared?

        • +2

It's not too hard to switch between accounts on Apple TV.

On an iPhone or iPad however it could be more convoluted. Try going to your iTunes Store app, then switch to the other account under Purchases and see if you could stream from there.

With Music purchases, I had to download the content first as it would not allow me to stream. I'll need to hop on the kid's iPod to check out Movies but from memory it was not straightforward.

          • @quarrymaster: I've seen a couple of articles on setting up family sharing with three accounts:

            1) media
            2) mr
            3) mrs

Everything gets purchased under the 'media" account, Apple TV is signed in as that account, then the "mr" and "mrs" accounts on each device and they each also have access to the shared media from the "media" account

        • +1

Yeah as quarrymaster said, switching accounts is way easier on Apple TV than on iPhone.

        • Just checked on my kid’s iPod. I can download but not stream movies nor songs I purchased. Once downloaded, then I can play content.
