Australia Post Failing to Deliver Packages?

I have 5 tracked packages in the last month that have failed to be delivered to my address in Sydney - Tracking numbers all indicate they have either been processed at Chullora or is waiting for release in customs. I've never had any problems like this before, and I've been contacted by Auspost regarding 4 of those packages explaining that they don't know what is going on either.

Has anyone else here been experiencing similar problems recently? I know that Chullora is notorious for messing up deliveries, but 5 packages in one month, really?

I reckon the CEO should take a pay cut of 0.00001% so they can offset & employ another 150 people (humans) to do the job more effectively & efficiently. :P

Current Auspost CEO Christine Holgate apparently makes $1.4 million plus $1.4 million in potential bonuses, so assuming she hit all her targets, that's $2,800,000.00 per year.

      0.00001% x 2800000 = $0.28.

Thank you for the mathematical breakdown however I am very sure that many on this platform understands the analogy behind it.
        Cheers

I got the analogy, was just having a bit of fun. But honestly, even if you took 10% of her pay, that's still only ("only") $280,000. Which is enough to hire 3-4 people including benefits. And make F-all difference really.

            @HighAndDry: True, all good

I guess that Christine is taking a massive pay cut considering that her predecessor was earning 3 times as much P.A.
However, 3 - 4 extra people are better than none considering that many organisations want to automate processes and love DIY to fund their coffers.

            Cheers

@vinni9284: In the grand scheme of things, I'd take a CEO who improves efficiency and/or processes overall, than hiring just more bodies who'll just labour under the same limitations of Auspost's systematic issues.

Of course, it'd suck to pay more for a CEO and have less people who end up working under those same systematic issues… or new ones introduced by that CEO.

@HighAndDry: Don't forget that those 3-4 people must not be working between walking and running speeds otherwise a culture of fear develops and no one can use the toilet!

  • Do you live a new area/estate? I always had problems as my address couldn't be located, even on a normal gps.

    • Nope, live in a suburb that's been around for decades. Haven't had any issues having parcels delivered before.

    Was it drugs?
If it was they were probably pinched by customs. Expect a visit from the cops in a few months.

At this point in frustration and confusion, I'd rather it be drugs, then at least I'll know why my parcels have gone missing.

Yes, yes. This thread is needed I was going to start it myself.

They drop a card off without knocking (there is always someone at home here). Mostly fixed this by using app and always telling them to leave it. But stuff that needs signature they still sometimes offend with.

Had a package two weeks ago where they reported (in app) "Incorrect address on package". It was an Amazon order and I've not changed my address with Amazon, having received dozens and dozens of Amazon orders before and several since this one no problems with same address. After saying "incorrect address on package" they sat on it (no actions) for 1.5 weeks until I lodged a complaint. Then I get a card in the mail for me to go and pick it up from Australia Post! When I get the package, of course the address isn't incorrect.

It's not just Australia Post though, it's other couriers too. Had one last week "We attempted delivery at 10:07pm and no-one was home". No card was left. And who would attempt delivery at that time of night? Truth will be the courier just reported that so he didn't get in trouble for not delivering it.

Couriers will eventually be replaced with Uber-like delivery services just like so many other industries & when they bleat and complain I'll have no sympathy given the terrible service they provide.

    • That sounds terrible, I would equally be as a mad if they dropped a card without even knocking. Have you tried calling up their complaint line?

I can't wait for the day where couriers would be replaced by uber-like services. Legacy institutions like post and taxis are bloated and ancient and will fall by the wayside, hopefully sooner than later.

    • I've been having similar issues and none in Auspost have been able to help so far.

I've raised complaints multiple times and have been getting different answers every time.

Once they said they have spoken to the driver and he'll start delivering now. Nothing changed.

      Next time they sent this:
"Thank you for taking the time to contact us about your delivery issues. I can certainly understand the frustration when your articles aren't being attempted for delivery correctly. My name is XXX, and I can definitely help you with some further information.

I'd like to apologise for the delay in getting back to you. We've received a large volume of enquiries and are working hard to get back to everyone as soon as we can.

We have investigated the issue of no attempted deliveries with the XXX Delivery Facility. They have advised that your address is on the pre-card list/register as it is a high risk security and safety issue. The Postie cannot access the intercom without losing sight of his bike as there are mails on board (Australia Post policy).
This was approved by the Delivery Manager at the facility for the safety of delivery officers and mails."

I've since emailed them asking for a resolution as just saying screw you, we'll just card it doesn't help. Also, the postie in our area delivering parcels comes on a Toyota Hiace, I've noticed it several times. No response to either.

I'm just waiting for uber to start delivering parcels now!!

Waiting impatiently on an order from Amazon US due on 20th Feb. It is my first order since the GST issue so I'm guessing customs are taking longer to process or it's gone missing. I've noticed the regular post is also more infrequent. Could be worse if it was being delivered by Fastway Couriers?

AP has no control of the parcel until it is cleared by Customs.

  • A few weeks ago I needed to return some car parts maybe 45 minutes away. I wasn't able to drop off so I went through Australia post. The parcel made it to one of their sorting facilities then disappeared. Initially they offered me $50 for $433 of car parts, but eventually they compensated me the full amount as a gesture of goodwill. Sure I should have got insurance and will do for next time, but they lost it, not me, paying insurance to the person who is handling your goods doesn't sit right with me. And according the the tracking number, it still hasn't been found.

    • $433 of car parts

This had to have been a heavy, or bulky, or a heavy and bulky package. How do you lose something like this?

      • Or a small switch. $500 for a power window switch for my car.

      • +1

The box was about as long as a keyboard box, twice as thick, only about 4kg if I remember correctly. Adjustable toe rod arms they were. Still baffles me how they lose packages in their own facility. And then recommend you get insurance when using their service because they lose things. Amazing.

And then recommend you get insurance when using their service because they lose things.

The more I read that sentence, the more Auspost resembles the Mafia.

"That's an expensive item you're posting. Would be a shame if something happened to it. For a small fee, we can make sure it gets there safely…"

  • 'kin oath - happens constantly at my work. Funny, every other carrier has basically zero issues delivering to my work.

    • Same here, never had issues with Toll or DHL, but then again, you're paying a premium for a more premium service. Auspost is and fastway are like the fast food (but actually slow) of the delivery world.

  • +1

Chullora? Say goodbye to your items.

    • I've read stories online of Chullora (profanity) up all the goddamn time

  • 2 packages not arrived. 1 from HK, 1 from UK. Both have been in the system for 1 month. Something is going on, as they are both addressed to my local PO, so never left the postal system. First time I have not received items.

    • Yeah I suspected perhaps it's the influx of packages into Australia after the two weeks of Chinese new year where a backlog of parcels would've been sitting there waiting to be shipped out from China?

  • +1

    Multiple non arrivals this year
    Untracked from OS
One was mistakenly found sitting at the post office where it had been for a month, no card left - only found it when we went to collect a tracked package and they came out with two

Utterly hopeless and there’s no way to follow up

    • the post office people are always nice - makes it difficult to go off at them :(

I've had similar problems about 12 months ago and just after Christmas this year. Contaçt your Federal member of Parliament. They have direct access to Aust Post management. My two missing parcels were located within a few days, and I had a phone call from Aust Post apologizing with the last one.

    • Did you end up getting all your parcels?

  • Anyone ever had any luck with the lost letter office or whatever it is

  • Yes as I said parcels located and delivered.
