Hi Guys ,
Just a quick one in market i saw few Xiaomi PHILIPS Smart Downlights ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTkcvdVGipY ) and also non smart Philips Step Dim LED Downlight 10W (https://reductionrevolution.com.au/products/philips-essentia…)
My question is are these light aussie electrical certified, in case of fire incident will the home insurance company cover the lose or not ?
Thanks in advance.
Not sure whether the Xiaomi branded lights are compliant (I don't think they are since there's no official Xiaomi distributer here and Australia has it's own regulations - so it's unlikely anyone at Xiaomi has sort to have their products certified specifically to Australian regs).
For the lights sold by https://reductionrevolution.com.au/, there's a big link on their site that says Got a Question? - that's probably where you should ask if you want a more accurate answer. Electrical equipment sold by Australian companies must be compliant (these guys state that they located in Australia), however, there are too many "online only" stores that ship stuff from overseas that's not necessarily compliant.
If they're completely burnt/melted, who's going to know? /s
On a separate issue though, I've recently rekitted out my place so that all the lights are philips hue bulbs. Yes, they are more expensive, but I took into consideration that Xiaomi is a chinese company with most of it's products designed for the Chinese market. Some of their products that require the Mi Home App only work when China (or another asian country) is selected as the country of residence. Currently, they don't enforce the rule and there's no real check to confirm your country selection. Given that the lights are meant to be relatively expensive long term investments, I shyed away from those lights because of the possiblity that Xiaomi might, in the near future, check your country of residence (say, via IP address) and disable support as a result. This also goes for the "smaller" companies where the product requires ongoing support (such as apps and servers) - they could be gone tomorrow and you're left with expensive items that don't function as they should.
