used market varies vastly depending if you can strike a good deal or bad deal available during your hunting

    try to get rx570-4gb or 1050Ti , else 1050 or rx560

careful of ebay fake graphic cards

  • Nvidia GTX 670. I remember playing darksiders II on it 2-3 graphics cards ago. She'll be right

'gently used' = thrashed +/- cranked 24/7 the last 18 months in a mining rig.

    • Mining usually doesn't thrash GPUs …

      • Then you're doing it wrong.

        • They'll be hurt and will absolutely have life shaved off them, but any decent miner will have treated them well.

That said, make sure to check the cards for rust. Apparently miners set up air cons by them and result in some moisture on the card.

This is absurdly false. How does being set up near an air con introduce moisture? Air cons cool by condensation, i.e. removing moisture from the air. The air coming out of an air conditioner is drier, so I don't see how it could possibly cause rust. Also, you're making it sound like humid, tropical environments aren't a thing.

            • @p1 ama: Not sure? It was something about the set-up and rust. Was on a thread on reddit with a mining card that had some rust. Next to certain it was something to do with aircons for cooling.

              • @N1NJ4W4RR10R: Just because there was an aircon near the card doesn't necessarily mean that the aircon caused the rust?

Under $100 you don't really have much choice. I would say that the absolute minimum graphics card I would go for is something like an RX 570. I'm not sure if you can realistically fit in an RX 570 4GB for under $100. Anything lower and my advice would be to go with a Ryzen 5 2400G which has decent onboard Vega graphics and keep saving.

  • You can find Rx480/470 or 580/570 if you're lucky for $100 or less. Mining doesn't affect GPU performance, just change its thermal paste and you're good to go.
