Pocophone F1, Root/Flash, Lineage OS or MIUI?

Hi guys,

So i've recently purchased a pocophone f1.

Just want to know if anybody has tried any of these options and what would you say is the best outcome?

So like the poll says did you?
1. Nothing, i'm using MIUI and i'm really happy with, it has an aggressive memory management that makes it run really amazing.
2. I flashed and install LineageOS, now it's a nightly build, but still runs amazing, and hopefully you don't feel any of the bugs.
3. I flashed another rom, maybe an unofficial one, which has less bugs and issues then the official one, if you did this, could you post a comment with which one you installed?

Thank you!

  • I've heard flashing has resulted in poor battery performance, which is why im reluctant to go ahead with flashing mine

    • From what i googled, everybody who flashed get's worse battery life, MIUI has bloat but i think the memory management in MIUI is second only to Apple.

Nova Launcher + Google Camera and you've basically got a cheap Pixel 3.

I don't own one but if I hated the MIUI I'd choose Lineage.

I don't own a Pocophone but I have a Redmi Note 5 which is basically the same process in rooting and flashing. Anyways, I flashed pixel experience and gcam so now it's a Google pixel.

The difference between Pixel Experience and LineageOS is that PExp is more stock and basic compared to LineageOS. Therefore, it uses less battery. That is the reason why I use PExp over LineageOS.

If you get Google Camera, there is a long process with rooting xiaomi phones and it wipes the phone.

    • Yeah like i plan on unlocking my phone first regardless of what i'll do.

      • For my mi max3 the unlocking process is apparently a few weeks so I haven't bothered yet. And I need to transfer stuff back to my old phone.

  • Started flashing custom ROMs on a Redmi Note 4x and haven't looked back. MIUI might have improved from what it was before but LOS and other custom ROMs (especially PE and Resurrection Remix ROMs) are constantly supported and are more simple to use than MIUI.

Honestly if you never flashed custom ROMs before, I encourage you to do it, especially on this phone. It usually boosts up performance and hardly lags compared to MIUI, and you can install whatever you want and remove the crapware Xiaomi gives us.

Edit: best ones for this phone right now are Pixel Experience, Nitrogen OS, Lineage OS (unofficial, official just started but has some bugs so probably good to wait a few weeks before flashing it), and Ressurection Remix. I usually go for either Pixel Experience and Lineage OS since they are more stable and supported consistently more so than other ROMs, even after it's popularity decline.

    • I'm starting to think MIUI is very fine tuned…

  • I had been running aosp extended on a Zuk z2 pro for years and thought I'd hate miui as much as I did on my Redmi note 3 years ago (before I installed the aosp rom). I was Wrong big time. I've had the pocophone F1, debloated no root for a month and a bit on miui and it's been great. I thought "I'll try it for a couple of days then install Los". One of the biggest things that annoyed me on the Zuk was dial Sim issues. Since different manufacturers implement dual Sim in different ways it can be a pia for custom rom Devs to get right (3 months on the Zuk after the pie release) bit over head no problems with miui really. And as for the aggressive memory management, aosp extended often force closed my audio player but miui hasn't yet. Plus I like the multi-tasking layout. Great for typing things on one app into another without switching between them, no matter where on the screen the text is. (I still haven't rooted being as previously I only rooted to get past safety net checks on custom ROMs that weren't rooted; or to prevent certain apps access to network (per Sim&wifi)-already possible in miui; or to do fancy tasker things which destroyed my battery) TLDR - Surprised to be happy with miui coming from custom rom

    • Point taken i might unlock it and just use it as is.

    Hi all,

So after a lot of research, i've decided to leave the phone as is and just use it to see if i like MIUI or not.

Thank you for all your input!

  • Apologies for waking an old thread but, I found that running RR, LOS, Pixel Exp - all wouldn't allow my Foxtel Go or Optus Sports apps to work on the F1. They simply won't show any video. Even running magisk hide doesn't help. Running official MIUI or eu.xioami ROMs allows those 2 apps to work properly.

Any ideas / thoughts / workarounds to have RR, LOS, Pixel Exp running on the F1 and having all apps working? I have other phones with RR & LOS that work fine with my Foxtel Go or Optus Sports apps, just not the F1. The folk over at XDA & WP haven't been able to assist.
