Want a Gift ?

Hello friends,

My brother's 1st wedding anniversary is coming up in mid-June.
He knows I am always looking for some upcoming/current bargains/offers so he asked me about what sort of gift he can give it to his wife :) He mentioned that he can spend around 200-300AUD. He don't want to give her anything like …musical instrument, jewelery, any vacation voucher, dinner ideas etc as he has recently given these stuff. So basically he/we are running out of ideas. Appreciate if anyone can put some ideas :)

Thanks

  • I still like the idea of jewellery (rings) :) and flowers… :)

If that's really not a special enough present, maybe some really classic stationery, or something antique?

Would stay away from ipads :) and gadgety things cause they become out of date pretty quickly.

    • There are some exceptions like ebook readers and mp3 players which don't really progress that quickly.

That said I gave a e ink reader to a friend and she says she loves using it to read lecture slides since she always sits at the back of the class.

      • Well, I was thinking that the 1st anniversary present should last like a lifetime, sort of like milestone presents, e.g. 21st, 30th, 40th and so on… :) that's sort of where I was coming from. :)

  • A first wedding anniversary is either paper / cotton / clocks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedding_anniversary

    • But if you are Asian or/and even slightly superstitious.. stay away from clocks!

  • how about lessons for the musical instrument previously gifted…

What about hair straighteners, photobooks (of memories)

    Oh and also

There are SO many Freebies now
    i.e.

    BYS LipGloss
    Libra Tampons
    PadOnline Sample

    my immaturity acting in ;)

    • lmao

  • umm, maybe some special small gift made by himself, like small mug ?

Sandwich machine? Isn't that what the wife is for? =P

And yes, I AM KIDDING :)

You do know that 'wife' isn't really a word; it's an acronym for:

Washing, Ironing, Food & Entertainment! :p

        Flame suit ON!

Has Ur Sandwich Been Artificially or Naturally Done

          takes your flame suit

  • None of my suggestions are going to bargainy LOL:

Day Spa voucher ie. massage, manicures, pedicures, hair treatments, facials etc.
Collectable book on something they are interested in
Classic piece from Tiffany & Co that you'd keep forever
Tickets to concert that they would love

Tangible gifts are often forgotten or lost, whereas experiences are often cherished for a lifetime (yes marketing major).

Not sure how adventurous she is but there's plenty of things you can do in that price range, including tandem beach skydiving, jet boat rides, sports car drives..

There's plenty of links to these types of deals: Adrenalin and Best Gift. A quick google search also brings up plenty of other similar sites

    • I wholey agree. I think the best option is to take a day off work and shower his wife with attention for the whole day. lunch picnic, hotel room for the night together…
If that's not enough small gift to tie all the memories up.

      • I skim-read this far too quickly initially - my first reading was "tie her up in the hotel room for the night together". Of course, that could be an experience she cherishes for a lifetime too. It depends on her view on such things. :-P

  • From the title I thought the OP was giving out free stuff. Oh well.

I would go with something with a personal touch. Maybe a camera + digital photoframe, with the photoframe pre-loaded with with nice slideshows of all their lovey-dovey moments? Or if he really wants to be a cheapie, perhaps a photo book?

Give them a voucher to personally babysit their kids for 2 hours (retail value $150). After all, this is OzB.

  • For our first anniversary, my husband got us a Horizon room at Shangrila at The Rocks, facing Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
He also took me to my favourite restaurant at The Rocks for dinner.
That is something I'll remember forever as the whole thing was a complete surprise.
I didn't even notice him packing an overnight bag and sneaking the bag into the car.
Your brother might be able to do something similar, not necessarily same hotel / location.
