  • Nice, confirming I got this as well (existing user)

Time for everyone to dump Uber and start using other companies like ola and didi who pay the proper commissions to the drivers. Uber is now bringing in an addition to the app where you can tip in order for the customer to make up Uber’s shortcomings. Most drivers are already signed up with didi and ola so it’s in their best interests if we all support them by dumping Uber.

I would like to move to ola but I don’t know what the popularity is with it in Adelaide

      • +2

Increasing popularity in Adelaide, I rarely use Uber anymore.

Great in perth now, i havent booked an uber in a year.

Uber is the shittiest company in the world. It was founded by complete douchebag and should be regulated out of existence.

Here's Garry and Dave from The Dollop who will have you in stitches (oh they're funny!) outlining this piece of crap's various exploits and it's founder's activities like naming workplaces Jampad and giving Jampad it's own Twitter account.

    • I've tried so many times to use Ola and have only been successful once on the gold coast

    • They are all the same. Uber drivers use all the companies - ola taxify …

    • +1

While I agree - have had experiences such as always being overcharged with Ola

    • I completely agree with you. I drive Uber and DiDi.

Last night I was talking about this exact thing - my passenger said that he uses rideshare for work all the time, and would gladly use DiDi (or another alternative over Uber), however most of the time whenever he opens the DiDi, Ola or whatever other app there's simply no car available, or if there is, it's 15min+ away. With Uber, there's usually someone at his office within 2 or 3 minutes.

Keep in mind DiDi, Ola and the rest aren't perfect. DiDi makes it almost impossible to receive a cancellation fee if the rider is a no-show, and Ola's app (and platform) sucks monkey balls. But overall, their treatment of drivers is much better than Uber.

      • Guess it depends on the area, in Perth Ola was like that for a while, however the last 2 or 3 months ola and uber are identical in terms of response time.

      • I felt the same with Didi (in Melb) late last year but there has been a steady increase in drivers so far this year. I could barely find any drivers even in the CBD previously but have no issues getting one in a few minutes now.

Many drivers I've spoken to were also doing both Uber and Didi, but had the same sentiments re Uber being far too greedy and end up hurting their drivers economically. They pretty much said that they'll be boycotting Uber entirely and switching over to Didi once it gains popularity with riders.

    • I have Ola, Taxify, and Uber installed and try to use the cheapest if it's by a big margin over Uber, but it seems like everytime that happens I am charged way more than the suggested fair which brings it back to a similar price to Uber and the cars always seem worse? Not sure of confirmation bias, but I remember taking an Ola on a 35deg+ night and the guy didn't even have the air con running. This occurred right after the first Ola driver drove sped right past me and reported me for no-show..

      • Lol all the drivers are the same. They just choose which apps they install. Uber also totallt screws over their drivers for easy mistakes. Eg: f they brake “too hard” the acelerometer in their phone reports that and they get a strike.

    • Plus I very rarely see an existing customer campaign from Uber.

They don't seem to care about us or paying the drivers well, why should we care about them?

  • +3

    Done that. No 5$

    • +1

Perhaps it gets automatically deducted from your next trip when you use paypal to pay?

  • +1

I remember seeing the notification. Just added paypal now, don't see my $5 anywhere, not even when I try to book a ride. Should I just assume I'll get it after the ride is done?

  • +1

Added PayPal acct.. used ola but no $5 credit or discount :(

    • Lol same :(

Also with Ola each account has a targeted % discount each week. Ranges from like 10-40% I’ve found out.

  • Got a notification last week "to celebrate olas first birthday, $1 rides for 200 people" or something like that, but never got any $1 rides :(

  • +2

It's the same drivers regardless if it's Ola, Didi or Uber.

Ola in Perth have been as good as Uber. Anytime a discount coupon was not automatically applied, I queried it and got a full refund instead. That alone tells you how serious they are about taking over all of Ubers customers.

Other than that I find Ola charging system (how Uber used to be) cheaper by 20% compared to Ubers new upfront fixed price. Used to pay $36 with Uber to the airport, new price now is always $44-45. Ola without any discount is back to $36. I hit up Uber about their ridiculous new pricing system and was basically told it is accurate, nothing wrong with it.

Well there is a reason why I haven't used Uber in over a year… hopefully you idiots in your Jampad figure it out before your out of a job… lol

Just tried ordering a Ola tonight and I got charged even though the driver cancelled the ride! Tried ordering another ride but the driver was not moving on my screen for at least 5 minutes! Gave and ordered an Uber! Will have to contact Ola later today.

    • ha, also used Ola on Sat during the day. 1st guy drove around my block a few times then decides to drive into the city (im in Port Melb) and car stops for 10mins. so frustrating standing in the 35 deg heat. luckliy i cancelled the ride and no $10- fee, next guy was on time though. and price varies a lot. lots of times had similar issues so ended up just walking and talking public transport

Introducing tipping in a country that doesn't use the tipping system is scummy and a danger to us all if it gets hold. As another poster said its just another way to shift costs and unfairly. I used Grab OS and it was great, hope they come here. OP used your code, thanks for the post.

    • Well uber has already been rewarded by governments arount the world with free market access for breaking the law until they get what they want. Why wouldn’t they continue their arrogance and try to influence social norms while tightening the screws on drivers and customers at the same time. Good to finally see some healthy competition for uber popping up. We would all do well to support ola and others while they iron out their kinks. Fyi - i have had a few minor issues with ola, but even when the ride was 20-40% above the estimate, they were happy to send me partial refunds via a chat in the app in no time at all.

In many instances I have been charged full price by OLA inspite of coupon. I always take a screenshot now. Everytime I have reported such instances via email, OLA customer care have refunded me. So be wary of discounts promised by OLA as their systems are dodgy. Do take screenshots.

    • thanks for the heads up

  • Used Ola tonight from Brisbane Airport, great service. Love the $20.00 referral credit than $5.00 for adding PayPal for next trip 😊

Did use Ola in Adelaide, a driver tried to charge me $10.00 for a trip he cancelled. I submitted a request for refund,it was processed straight away.

Uber is giving me the run around with a gift card that comes up invalid. Support is hopeless.
