Tesla Model S Ludicrous Performance (née P100D) - From $164,465 (33% off - was $248,000+)

28400

Didn't expect this to be my first post, but here we are.

Obviously not a deal for everyone, and still a high yield investment depreciating asset, but Tesla has adjusted the price on their highest end Model S and Model X by about 33% which is a pretty significant saving of about $82,000 - $85,000 (or thereabouts) varying based on on-road costs for whichever state you're going to register the car in.

E.g. VIC pricing

  • Tesla Model S Ludicrous Performance (previously known as P100D) - $165,529 (was $248,112)
  • Tesla Model X Ludicrous Performance (previously known as P100D) - $172,502 (was $258,402)

For anyone previously looking to buy one of these, the value proposition has become a lot better. Still not for everyone. A pricing change of this magnitude is pretty much unheard of in the automotive industry, so it should be interesting to see what impacts it has on the resale value of existing used cars.

Here's an article from Carsales summarising the changes

UPDATE: These prices will only be valid until March 18th 2019 as Tesla will be increasing prices to make up for closing less stores than initially planned. They estimate 3% on average, but this higher margin variant may end up absorbing a large portion of the price increases.

2.6s from 0-100k/h is supercar performance and for that price is not too bad.

    • And it does that in silence. It's a weird feeling watching one pull away so fast without making a peep.

      • Pretty good to avoid unwanted attention from cops I guess

Saw the title and immediately thought of….

I feel like when i joined this website it was full of broke uni students and low-to-middle income earns now it is full of rich cheap knobs complaining about what to do with there half a dozen investment properties, how they need a 80k+ plus car and complaining about work conditions at Amazon and how we regular poor ppl should buy from Amazon….

A bargain is a bargain so im up-voting it but i feel like the days of the 1$ shorts from sports direct and people asking about how to stretch 12$ to feed themselves for a month are dead and gone

    • +3

You must have missed this deal haha - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/441628

    • I got negged a while ago for saying that current switch sale wasn't the best price it could be, because it's been $20 cheaper.

All of a sudden these rich fkfaces appeared and said "It's only $20" and berated me for pointing it out.

      :(

    • Eventually the broke uni students get jobs and aren't so broke anymore :P

  • Carsales still showing $240k

    • Carsales is always slow to update on manufacturers price changes or discounts.

Had a drive of the P100D in ludicrous mode about 12 months ago and that thing seriously nearly gave me whiplash - unbelievable acceleration!!! Autopilot mode also felt pretty freaky driving on the Monash freeway in Melbourne…

    • My partner and I took a Tesla Model S TAXI (Company is Taxi Electric) from Amsterdam to the Airport last year and got the accommodating driver to give us a demo on an empty road. Damn it was fast! It seemed to hit two acceleration levels, it started at scary and slightly later hit terrifying and then he backed off before we wet ourselves.

The driver said lots of options/updates were downloadable. He had updated his to Autodrive (probably not legal in Holland yet) to have a play.

  • I wonder if at least one person will buy this car from this deal. Statistically maybe not..

  • good find, won't pull my trigger

  • +2

Woot thanks op! Xmas prezzies for the family sorted.

  • +3

Tesla this week announced it would move away from retail stores to an online only sales model

Going to wait for that Ebay 10% off deal

  • Does cashrewards offer a Cashback to? 🤣

  • Good timing, the colour I was after back in Nov was unavailable so I held off pulling the trigger until now. Thanks OP!

Tesla's are the only cars that depreciate?

    • +3

Over react much? There are still very helpful posts here daily, but you've had the occasional humourous / silly posts for years.

    • +4

This… Coming from a guy who has posted 1 deal EVER.

      • That's the point, only quality posts should be submitted. It's not about submitting any deal for the sake of it.

        • +1

I agree with your our point. But… Not contributing.. And then calling this a stupid worthless post! If I ever in the market for this car, this is definitely worthy of a post. There are numerous deals I have upvoted bcoz i see value in it even though it is not for me.

By that logic I should only post stuff which is for me. And not for the community.

          • @aspirepranesh: Is this post contributing?

            • @baldur: I just mentioned above.. For anyone who is in the market for an electric car, this is certainly a worthy post. That makes it a contribution to the community.

I have never purchased eneloops (goes against the rules of an ozbargainer), but I most certainly have upvoted past deals bcoz I see it as value

  • +3

Was about to pull the trigger, but they don't take PayPal:)

  • Free postage? :P

  • Damn.. OOS now

  • Bought 2, saved 160,000. Then got the third one free for the kids.

  • Is there any cash rewards?

  • -1

Still expensive compared to US price

  • +9

I decided to save $164,465 by no buy.

  • +2

    Fire sale?

  • +3

Sat in one. Hard plastics everywhere I touched. Passed.

  • +1

    Wow!

There's actually a "ludicrous speed" version available! 2.6sec to 100km/h, Bargain at $136,900.

I wonder if it goes from suck to blow as well?

  • +3

    No deal cheaper here

  • -5

$160 grand on a Tesla, please.

Would hate to be a current owner.
Well, this seems like what company near bankruptcy would do.

    • +2

The company is Closing all Internstional dealerships , cost cutting and doing it online only .’

      • Yeah, all five Australian dealers to close. So how do we test drive one? Warranty? Servicing?
OTA updates are great and all, but this is starting to look like Kogan.

  • +1

Felt compelled to post in the greatest bargain of all time.

I test drove one and it’s truely amazing acceleration. But as soon as you use the power the range halves very quickly. If you do much spirited driving your range will be a quarter at best of the advertised range.

  • +3

Bought 10 and with the saving i bought a house.
    Thanks

  • Are EV chargers standardised? If Telsa goes under would I be stuck with only being able to charge at home?

    • +1

Nope. No standards yet. But we will adopt CCS2 and Type 2 moving forward. Tesla use Type 2 for AC charging but they use a barstardised version of "DC-Mid" for their supercharging. To Tesla's credit they will offer adapters for CCS2.

  • +5

Wow good time for Westpac investment analysts to upgrade if their condition allows them to

    • +1

Why not… it is a high yield investment afterall ;).

    • Or for the first timer mortgage broker

  • +1

cant believe this car does 2.6 to 100 thats insane

thats out running cars 5 times its price tag

  • Thanks OP. Just got two.
I'm not an Apple or ABB fanboy but I'm definitely a Tesla fanboy.
Hopefully it is not a pricing error.

    • +2

Try buying one and see if your order gets cancelled. ;) might give you a $30 voucher if they do.

  • +4

Damn, to buy a Tesla or to buy every Dreamcast in Australia. Decisions.

Those who were following their 'new' local inventory would know that the top of range models were never even close to 248K drive away, they were closer to these 'adjusted' prices. Panoramic sunroof is no longer available and some features that used to be included in the top of the range models are no longer standard. $6400 + taxes for 21" wheels, $4300 + taxes for Autopilot, $7100 + taxes for Full Self Driving with Autopark, Supercharging and Premium Connectivity are no longer unlimited with new cars.

    • You can get sunroofs still. You need to call them for a special order….

  • Wow, great savings. Think I’ll get 2!!

  • Il just leave this here, Tesla isn't havent the best 'run'.

whats the opposite to a price jack?

    A price jill?

    • nah - a price jill is when you increase the price to 80% of a prick jack

  • Great first post OP! This is indeed a great deal for people in the market for Tesla cars

  • +1

    Cash rewards?

  • Huge discount!

Sucks to those 1%ers that bought it before this, actually no.

  • Thanks, ordering 50 now

Thank you so much OP, been eyeing this for a while! Was thinking to get one to share, but with this price we no longer have to..

now we just need to rob the bank!

I am still driving my 10 year old car and waiting to replace it with an electric car … but even at these prices I will need to wait a little longer. Amazing that Australia does not have any incentives to buy electric cars. A lot of the worlds lithium is mined in Australia … so there should be some interest in making electric cars a success.

Looking forward to see the new Huyndai Iconic, Kona and the Kia Niro. Also the Honda e Prototype looks promising: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfD67KCFxqI
But I guess I will have to wait another 2 years for the prices to be more affordable. I can wait.

    • +1

I’m in the same boat as you. I’ll wait the 2 yrs to get an affordable electric

      • $55k for the Model 3? maybe still too expensive for most

        • I am waiting for a 30-40k car … maybe even a used one … :-)

It might be in 2024 … then my Premium Feed-In Tariff is expired and I can put on more solar panels on the roof … to power the car and heating of the house.
No more gas or petrol. Just a dream right now.

  • +1

It’s a shame Australia don’t even have half-decent charging stations around, otherwise many more people would have bought one or 50.

    • Take a look at Plugshare.com. I think you will be surprised…

    • +5

Buy new Samsung S10 and use the power share feature.

603 upvotes and probably only 10 people could actually afford this lol

    • +2

And I bet 9 of them don't even know what OzBargain is :)

edit: My neighbours daughter actually has a P100D. Never realised they were worth so much!

Damn, I was hoping for Cashrewards.

  • +3

    Anyone want to go 500ths?

    • +1

Sure, I'll take the rear left door handle. Now we only need 498 more people!

    • 500ths? So each person gets to use it for 0.73 of a day? Surely you could stretch it to 365th's??

  • Cashrewards?

  • +1

Do they provide finance, and if they do, at what rate?
