MSI GS65 vs Dell G7

Hi guys – looking for some recommendations. I'm looking to buy a gaming laptop which will mostly be used as a desktop with an external monitor but occasionally will need it on-the-go hence the need for a laptop.

I've read some good reviews on the MSI GS65 – currently on sale for $3,144.

Also found this New Dell G7 15 – currently on sale for $2,719. Can't find many reviews on this particular model though.

Both seem to have pretty much the same specs. What would you guys recommend? Is the MSI worth the extra $$?

    MSI has a 144hz screen. That's the biggest difference in terms of specs that I can see, and if you're going to be mostly using an external monitor this will be wasted on you.

    I'd also go the Dell just for build quality, warranty and aftercare - ime Dell's is better than almost any other company's out there.

    There might be other cheaper ones I didn't look too hard (ie. cheaper from stores that AREN'T ebay maybe).

    Personally I prefer MSI over Dell because while Dell makes decent monitors their laptops have been hit and miss for me. I bought a G3 or G5 a while back for a family member and the internals make it very hard to add an M2 SSD and I had various issues with a few Dell laptops and the way they've setup secure boot UEFI or whatever they call it.

    Might just be bad luck on my part though, YMMV.

    Having said that yes Dell support will be much much better than MSI or any one else even if they offshore the support. They will go to great lengths to make sure you are happy (in my experience).

      Thanks for the reply. The eBay one is actually the GTX 1060 version + 256 GB SSD, whereas the JB one is RTX 2060 + 512 GB SSD. Not sure if worth the extra though.
