What are some good but short Xbox One/PS4 retail games that can be completed under 8 hours?

Hoping people can help recommend some good games which have a short campaigns. Preferably under 8 hours and which have had a physical/disc release.

Trying to get complete a few more games this year which won't take weeks or months to complete due to time restrictions whilst trying to cut down on digital purchases.

Edit:
As ozhunter as mentioned, you can check the duration of most games here:

  • Battlefield 1

  • Do a google search for short PS4 platinum trophies and short XB1 100% achievements.

These sort of games tend to finish in under 8 hours and you can usually get all the trophies/achievements for them within a day.

    • Never thought about this. Will try it on the weekend. Thanks for the tip.

  • The Resident Evil 2 remake is 8 hours. Dead Cells. The Last Guardian is a bit more at 12. Mirrors Edge 2 is 6 hours. The Metro games aren't too long. Titanfall 2. The Order 1886.

Didn't realise Mirrors Edge 2 is that short, I have it at home but never got round to playing it after the first one, might smash it out this weekend. Also seconded Titalfall 2, really fun, short and cheap game!

    • Thanks. Trying to stay clear of Resident Evil games at the moment. They always take me longer then the average time.

Looks like there's a few EA games that fall in this category. Completely forgot about Star Wars: Battlefront II and Battlefield 1 as mentioned above.

    • Should have called this out on the main post but that's the site I been using to check. I just couldn't find a way to search games by duration. Will update.

Be warned, many games now simply up the difficulty to squeeze in more "hours" to the post. (eg God of War, Medium difficulty is stupidly hard in many parts of the game).

Other games just copy-paste some side quests that aren't really special to inflate the game time (eg Fallout 4).

There are other games that have options which have different results. However many are not structured well, are too convoluted, and take too long to replay (eg Some Telltale games).

The best games I think are those with a compelling story, and whilst playing, it doesn't feel like "grinding". And their cause-effect isn't very nerve racking and convoluted. And shows you which missions are Mainline and which are Side missions (eg RDR2).

Too many games now throw duplicated content at open-world and have a map that's pointlessly large. Then they tweek the difficulty to get you to buy Slots or In-App content. The latest game that comes to mind is Assassin's Creed Origins/Odyssey.

My favourite game experience in the past few years has been with The Last of Us, GTAV-Online, Doom, Until Dawn, Uncharted, and RDR2. There's others that come a close third, but there was always something missing (or added too much). Going back further years, and then we start getting nostalgic.

  • Uncharted series, Last of Us, Tomb Raider (10-12 hrs?)

  • gears of war 4 and all the others in the series

these are supposed to because played more than once to see everything but are quick to just rip through

    overcooked
    sonic mania
    sonic forces

  • Prey and the dishonoured games might fit the bill
