Work Computer Data Deletion

Can a company that's put you on notice to leave force you to keep things on a work laptop that has some personal data on it too?

It's a work laptop and their property, then I would assume so. What does your company policy say?

so they're asking you to not delete any data from the laptop that belongs to them?

They could lock your account so can't login.

I'd delete/copy any personal stuff you worried about now while you still can.

don't store personal stuff on work computer…..
    .

    • Some companies allow 'limited personal use' on work computers…

doesn't make it a good idea, hence the OP's problem
        .

They allow it, but it doesn't make the laptop any less their property.

Don't use company resources for Facebook, Instagram or other social media unless it's for work.

  • It's a work computer, so it would be highly advisable to keep personal things off it, unless you are willing to suddenly lose it due to bad work politics.

It's a work laptop, so yes. You shouldn't have had personal stuff on there in the first place.

    Hi welcome to the Forum

  • You might want to consider the legal definition of the information that you consider personal. Something like a client list might be legally classified as intellectual property belonging to your employer.
