Dashcam footage needed! Melbourne M1 8:00PM 25/2/19

Hi all,

Date: 25/02/2019
Time: ~8pm - 840pm
Location: M1 towards Geelong, between Todd Road exit and Williamstown Rd Exit

A bit of a stretch here but was anyone travelling on M1 when a ladder fell off a van and did they have a video footage of it that contains its car plate number?

My dashcam footage has the van stopped in the emergency lane at 816pm so any time between 8-840pm. It was a little dark and my 70mai couldn't capture the car plate number…

Story: Was travelling on right lane. The car in front of me swerved into emergency lane and there I saw a damn ladder in the middle of the road. Barely dodged the ladder and it punctured my tyre. I didn't pull into the emergency lane immediately but waited till the Williamstown exit to stop my car.

Will really appreciate it if anyone can help!

  • A date might help? For all we know, you could be referring to last Friday …

    • Can't believe I forgot to include the date. Post amended. Thanks!

Contact Dashcam Owners Australia.. sounds like something that would likely be uploaded there

  • That sucks. Some tradies are the absolute worst when it comes to road pollution. They drop tools, paint cans that spill all over the road, cardboard. And because they drive a lot, they think they own the road and have priority over everyone.

Nails and screws. I'm out of pocket for 3 tires over the last 4 years.

driving through suburban streets where theres new constructions going on is horrible.. not only do they take up 3/4 of the road, they dump their nails/screws/crap all over the road

If I see a loose screw or nail, I just take a pic and email to work safe and say I nearly stepped into it.

          Sloppy work is not on.

      • I had a stretch where I needed to drive past a construction site about once a week. Had 2 punctures barely a month apart, sh** was maddening. At least they're consistent..?

        • Had 2 within 5 days a few years back..hadn’t even got the first repaired. Good lesson, although did start to wonder if it was luck or vengeance

Post the video you have? Someone might be able to "enhance" it

  • Post the details in ‘Police Activity and Accidents - Melbourne & Victoria ‘ on Facebook. There’s 55k members. Good luck

So you want to charge him for the tyre? You need to

    • have endless talks to police
    • pay court application fee if required
    • take leave from work and go to court (possibly accompanied by the person who owns dashcam records) to testify
    • if successful and the person who dropped the ladder does not prove it was beyond his ability to do better, then you get back your application fee plus puncture repair fees capped at $80 for the tyre; only if that person is not bankrupt
