Just about to turn on my waffle maker and thought it's time to share for those that haven't thought about getting one. When I was in the US ages ago all we had for breakfast the whole time were waffles. This is a little reminder of that holiday. The family loved them.

Normal RRP $279. No ones going to buy them at price point. Even at over $200 not cheap, but this unit is a well made one. Over engineered, but we like the look and features. The $50 ones you have to watch it as no timer, or different settings.

Great breakfast idea for those fussy kids that think cereal and toast is boring.

There is a model that makes the 4 quarters in round shape which is a bit cheaper model (sub $150) if you want to save a bit more.

Just to entice you even more.

    • There's some cafe's that offer them on their menu's as well if you don't have the time to make them. Fluffy freshly made waffles. MMMMM

  • Aldi has two waffle machines for $15.00 and I think they are great.Dont know personally as they go before I get to eat them.

    • Gee $7.50 each. Bargain

Waffle Maker $219.95 Dying from Obesity priceless

    • All in moderation. Really depends on what you put on top. Bit of fruit and honey. Surely that's ok.

Agree however I have no self control

        • If you only have one vice this is the one to have. So good. :)

The Kmart ones for $29 are perfect. They also do the flippy thing so the middle is light and airy.

Also, there’s no timer, per se, but there’s a “ready” light. That being said, it’s not hard to check if it’s at your level of ready…

I can't speak to the Kmart model, but any waffle maker worth its salt MUST have a flip mechanism (as all commercial waffle makers do) otherwise you just end up with a moulded pancake!

        Perfect summary!

This is my problem with this Smart Breville model. It doesn't flip so even though the sides are cooked evenly there is more weight where gravity has done it's bit. I've had my Smart Waffle Pro for about 5 years now and it's definitely not the same as my flip maker I got from America. Flip waffles are so much better.

  • Hey OP got any savoury waffle recipe recommendations?

  • You still need to make the waffle batter which is a bit of work with folding in beaten egg whites etc. If you just make normal pancake batter they won't be that nice crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside

The buttermilk recipe is simple. 3 eggs, plain flour, bi carb, salt, butter milk, caster sugar, vegetable oil.

Life's too short to not enjoy good waffles.

  • Dunno why, but reading through the comments here has been entertaining, in a good way. Almost completely positive comments, people sharing recipes, encouragement, gentle humour, no real put-downs. Well done, everyone - and thanks for making my day just that slight bit better (and it was already pretty good!).

    • Yeah. Food usually gets people going. As per my description. These waffles just remind me of my holiday and fond memories. In the hotels they would have the waffle mix by the truck load. You had to use the round flip over old school waffle plates. Just good to have something slightly different. Those little nooks are perfect for the raspberries and blueberries to sit in.

Nothing like waffling on about old memories ;)

might be worth getting a waffle iron that does square waffle rather than round, i make batches and reheat in the toaster from either the frozen or refrigerated extras

    • There is a round version by Breville that makes 4 quarters which I assume should still fit in toaster as it looks a tad smaller than the square one. I do know what you mean. Batching them and having them over the next day or freezing some is more convenient.

    • Unless you have a wide slice toaster, these waffles may not fit! They are quite large (but oh so delicious!)

      • Oh yeah. I have one of the toasters that accept crumpets and the cafe thick style fruit toast.

  • I had the Sunbeam Belgian Waffle Maker and it was PERFECT - square waffles and it flipped. I lost it once in a move and they're no longer available, I now have a cheap kmart two waffle square job that I flip over on a chopping board. I really miss my waffle maker.

    I own one of these,

It is quite decent but i will admit it is not fun to try clean.

I paid only $200 about 4 years ago.

Surprised it is still quite expensive.

If you do enough research, you could probably find a better one for hte same price.

Makes decent waffles, finding the right recipe wasn't fun.

    • If you spray it with some oil or brush melted butter on it it should make it easier to clean as its non stick.

Didn't they have the recipe book. You didn't find a good one in there.
