Recommend Me a Printer for Printing Business Cards with Lots of Colour

Need a printer that can print business cards with colour cheaply but still decently what is the best value printer for this use case scenario atm.

Also need a scanner.

Thanks for everything try give useful comments only.

I know it is an odd request but the client needs a solution for this specific use case scenario.

Using vistaprint would be my usual answer but they want something in their house and physical.

Mainly I guess for trial and error and a lot of experimentation.

Live with two guys who still use business cards lol.

If you don't have any good comments it's ok this is a special scenario I understand.

I think this alien left his manners on his home planet.

Interesting I thought you were one of the cool guys. Bit of idol sadness here.

Just wanted to see who on ozbargain has it out for me..this was one way.

      Thanks.

Making a list of some sort if you please.

Unless you're going to be printing business cards all the time, wouldn't it be better to get a company like Vistaprint to print them for you?

I presume you'd need this printer delivered as well …

I've used Vista Print may times for matt finish business cards. They have a lot of new designs now. Pay the extra to get the back of the cards blank

  • Officeworks prints business cards cheap so long as you have your artwork in the correct format.
Can't you use your phone as a scanner ?

    • It is an option but the nearest officeworks clone doesn't have these services. Trust me I checked and they need an in house solution hard to explain but just need something old school.

They still live by prehistoric ways.

I don't think I have taken someone's business card in years. They still exist?

    • Not in normal civilization no.

Buys $100 colour printer with capaibilty to print on to card. Needs more ink , spends $$. Needs card to print on to , spends $$.

Posts forums post asking how to cut card, buys guilotine, $$

Or just buys from vista print card for $10 and is done.

Or goes to officeworks to get small run done for minimal cost.

Another stupid ill thought out forum post

  • Forgot to mention this is not for me but senior technologically illiterate brain dead clients that want exactly what I wrote.

Who even uses business cards anymore.

I knew I was gonna get some slack for this fml.

    • If they're technologically illiterate, even better to pay a professional like Vistaprint or Officeworks to do them, lest they look amateurish or jam up the printer and break it …

I can tell you are not very good at problem solving only problem creating.

That or I overestimated your abilities.

Wish there was some way to tell you they cannot do this otherwise this post would not exist.

Never mind I'll do my own research just thought better from this community and that somebody might have come across this unique situation.

But as usual I got the trolls.. Fair enough it is the internet.

Maybe I didn't word it correctly.

        Human psychology is tricky.

I do my own research, unlike you. You’re the one with the problem here (both the printer and the whole people are out to get you thing), not me. It’s not my fault you can’t convince your clients to adapt to new methods of printing business cards (professionally)

@kerfuffle: I know you came just to argue it's cool I do too.

Yeah I never do my own research it just comes naturally out of thin air.

It's ok your comments are super helpful and never misguided I thank you for that kerfuffle.

            Helpful as always.

Thanks for the helpful comments all.. till next time. Try not to be so cancerous next time you still got a lot of years left to live.

I believe in you guys you can do it.

Ozbargain forum posts need a rewind feature.

    Gotta flush out the cancer.

  • If your clients insist on printing their own cards fine they are the ones paying you to organise this, can't see why you are getting so much grief.

Problem is you can't tell how many cards or how often design changes will force a new batch to be printed, this means you don't know the life of consumables.

assuming it's a small run of 100 A canon or HP colour inkjet with a photoprint option on the shiny thick photo card stock would work.

Make sure the printer has full CMYK capability. that is has a separate black cartridge as that stops the 3 colours mixing to achieve a black

Try this one can be bought with full inks rather than the starter 1/2 full ones. Yes I know its from the guys that made the tax but its cheap

    • Thanks man I am just taking suggestions and ideas in case they don't bite on the vistaprint pitch.

      • Do these clients have and use a mobile phone? If so make a business card for each, save to phone send to contact via nfc or such, isn't that what the Japanese do?

They are big on business cards still? I know 10 yrs ago ppl were putting business cards on small cds as a full biz presentation, just bouncing ideas

I thought about that but that is way too complicated for them. Let me put it this way I had to teach one how to uninstall an app and another how to use a printer and scanner.

They are from the 70s.. technologically one of them is from the 60s technologically.

          • @AlienC: OOha old 80 yr olds that will blame you if they can't do something or if computer malfunctions you are to blame cause you installed word 5 yrs ago types and were the last one to change something.

            Been there done that
            LOL

            • @ShannonN: Yeah it is not ideal but it is what it is.. trying to make an ant hill out of a mountain

  • Merged from Which Printer Is The Best Value and Most Economical for Lots of Colour Printing?

I just need something to print the most pages of colour for the cheapest cost (refill cartridge wise).

What's the ozbargain favourite or just best value printer if I want to keep buying cartridges and not new printers every time?

Tempted to just keep buying new printers but feels stupid and not environmentally conscious to do that so looking for the cheapest cartridge option.

What is everybody using or have found to be the cheapest.

Currently using a dying old behemoth which is super bulky but has a scanner but the printing quality is beyond its last legs so needs a replacement.

    What's good ozbargain?

    • laser printers are fair more economical than inkjet but have a slightly higher upfront cost.

      • Which would be best in the long run say 10 years usage. It will basically be used through out the year maybe once or twice a month doing batch printing here and there.

Definitely don't want something short term but something that can last minimum 5 years going for 10 or more.

    • Laser printers are the best, don't even bother with inkjets at all

Brother are commonly recommended but I own an HP one and it's still alright.

    • +1

Use the neighbours, or at work.

    • You dont say how big a print run each month will be. 100 full colour pages or a mix of black text and colour images, are there colour photos or just charts?

Really makes it hard to offer the cheapest consumable using printer without knowing how much consumable is going to be used?

Look at an oki colour printer

Cheapest/best bang for buck at about 12 cents per copy. most full tanks (not starter tanks) rated at 3.5k copies

They are LED lasers not the usual mirror based and have no distortion etc associated with normal lasers print quality is excellent

Source: used to sell them years ago

      • What is their life expectancy looking for something that will last forever or longest tbh with cheapest refill.

        • Nothing will last forever. The lifespan of any printer is dependent on the volume of printing it does and page coverage.

Sounds like you want a 20k commercial printer with a 25 yr guarantee for 5 bucks with free lifetime refills and free lifetime paper as well.

          Ain't gunna happen :)

Best idea is to contact the guys at printer supermarket direct but like I said you need to provide them with a general idea of how many copies you'd print per year and at what coverage (colour vs text)

They then can say x printer has the best per copy price, and you can go from there. If you are a business with an abn maybe you can lease and claim tax advantage etc .

Again talk to the experts at a dedicated laser printer company, no hardly normal/ JB hi fi box shifters they don't have the industry knowledge these guys have.

Good luck with your search but don't try to cheap out on a good printer vs a budget printer if you are doing lots of printing it may end up costing more later on.

@ShannonN: Thanks I might just get a cheap one on the next sale from harvey norman or officeworks and go from there.. no time and energy to research too much into this and no motivation to to be honest.. just want to get it done asap
