Anyone have any experience with these?

  • Check the forums. Seems firmware updates are terrible on this thing.

    https://support.portalwifi.com/hc/ja/community/posts/1150078…

  • Not sure why anyone would buy this over anything reputable? Clearly just Razer selling their name for junk at this point (and every point prior).

    • What other option is there for mesh at this price?

      • Never seen anything else near this price.
I've got the TP-Link Deco m5 which are $95 each (but only if bought in a 3 pack.)

      • Do you need "mesh"? Like 1x Ubiquiti UAP would more than cover any normal sized house.

I guess if renting and router in a crappy spot might be needed?

        • Even if you dont need mesh there's nothing of this spec for $63.

  • Ignition Design Labs has several commonly available features coming in future updates, but we weren’t able to test them. These include parental controls, guest network set-up and control, quality-of-service support, VPN support, and a dual firewall (SPI & NAT). These features should arrive at a later date, but for now, you’ll have to get by without them.

Anyone who owns this can confirm if the above features have been added?

    • According to reviews these are already available.

  • Amazon reviews make it sound a little toooo good to be true. If I had the cash to splurge I'd buy just to see for myself, but how is this budget device so revolutionary?
I assume any actual gains are coming from the WiFi side of things, cuz I'm not about to ditch a pfSense FW for a $60 router, but they would serve as a potential upgrade to my single UAP AC Pro, which doesn't quite fill all the holes in my 2story house… Lack of PoE is probably holding me back at this stage, but certainly need to investigate the claims in more detail

  • The Amazon reviews actually sound scary : apparently the user has no control over the firmware upgrade process. The unit (or more accurately the manufacturer) decides if and when it will download and upgrade the firmware, and the user won't even be told. They will find out only when things start to go wrong, like the frequent dropout problem mentioned in quite a few reviews. So even if the unit works well out of the box and within warranty, you can't keep it that way by disabling firmware upgrade - you can't.

And the scary part is, someone out there that I don't know can change the firmware and take control of my network someday if they feel like it. I guess this is a case of if you pay less upfront, you end up paying in a different way later.

Must suck to live your life in fear

  • I hope the people who bought this give us a few reviews.

Bought two devices to create a home wire mesh. Set up was super easy and as far as speed goes it’s faster than my netgear nighthawk. That’s just first day review.
