you could read the reviews on the website…
I am aware of that, but having been to Rivers in the past, and seen the people shopping there, I don't trust them very far to provide a review detailing the quality of a product.
But YOU shop there too…
@dangerdanger: I've been there like 2 times when I was a teenager and it was full of grandmas and XXXL men haha.
@dangerdanger: Rivers used to make quality shoes in the 80s. i believe they had a factory in ballarat as my uncle wore them pretty much exclusively. i've bought some decent shoes from them in the last twenty years, still wear one pair regularly, but the last couple of times i've had a look they had nothing worth considering.
But you’re asking the same people for a review… people that shop at rivers…
@BeRad: BeRad, I don't think jrowls understands his own comment…
@jrowls So, you want a review of a Rivers product from someone who doesn't shop at Rivers?
Good luck
I bought a pair during the last deal but ended up returning them as they didn't fit my style. They're more akin to a work boot as opposed to slim Chelsea style if that's what you're after.
Nah I'm happy with a workboot - the rubber outsole is a dead giveaway. I have a pair of Chelseas already. Thanks for the tip!
Can second this review. Quality was very good for the price, the style was just a little too rounded/work boot for wearing at the office.
Chelsea style is also on sale if anyone wants them:

Agree they are a workboot. I bought them as a cheap version of RM Williams Comfort Craftsman. Very quiet, I've managed to sneak up on a few people at work.
Yea they're actually pretty decent quality and comfortable considering the price. I prefer the black suede one as it looks better for my taste. For the record I never shop at Rivers, typically not my scene.
OMG as I was writng this I received an email from rivers to provide feedback on these shoes that I had purchased weeks ago. Tinfoil time.
You never shop at Rivers, but you bought a pair of boots?
Are you just saying that because you don't want to be seen as uncool on OZB? lol
Ozb and cool just don't go together lol. Just saw the boots on ozb a few weeks ago and gave it a shot. I was surprised how good it was for the price.
I have owned these exact boots for about 4 years now as my daily walkers (not for work) - build quality is impeccable - still in incredibly good shape, not a thread out of place, no glue coming undone - honestly, regardless of price, these are some very impressive boots!
(Just thought i'd add that, this is the ONLY item i have ever purchased from Rivers that was good quality - i have returned everything else i have ever bought there due to poor stitching/workmanship/quality or just straight up incorrectly made sizing)
As above, reviews say they run large, so to order a size below.. but would like to hear from someone who's got a pair.
I normally wear a 9-10 but got an 8 for these boots. I don't know that much about boots, but these feel really solid!
i'm size 8/42 , does that mean this 8 is too large then ?
That's the way I read it. Sounds like you might need a 7 for this style, only available in light tan for $69.30.
Yep, I would say so. I often wear 43/44
@frogduck: I tried the lace up version of these, and found the fit long and narrow. No good if you have wide feet.
Don't forget Cashrewards for 3.5% cashback.
For $49.50 = $1.73 cashback
For new Rivers members $39.50 = $1.38 cashback
I have these one's https://www.rivers.com.au/shop/goodyear-welt-boot/p/2939MBOO…
and I'm happy with them. Bought them a couple of years ago when they had them marked at $40, but had 50% off store wide, so only paid $20. Have done a bit of hiking in them and they are still in good condition.
Looks like a decent boot for special price of $49, but a steal @ $20.
Yeah looks good. But this seem like heavy duty boots for outdoors. Not so much everyday use for work and leisure.
Ive been using them every day for leisure, not work, they have fared well and look good with a pair of jeans or pants, look casual/semi dressed up, i highly recommend them. Also, i enjoy the grip level and adding half an inch to my height haha
Thanks for the link to the boots. I just went and grabbed a pair. I take a size 9 but not sure if a size 8 would be better due to stretching. They only have size 8 left in the black, not so nice looking. I will see how these go and if they get too big I will swap them when next in stock.
The price tag on the boots is $129.99, they tried to charge me $64.99 being the 50% off.
Anyway, only cost me $39.50 in store with the signup code $10 off for the Rivers website.
Happy chappy.
Same here, but I showed them the website and they matched the price
At this price range theres no benefit of them being GY welted. You can simply buy a new pair once they wear out.
Great boots
Wear them every day to work
Went one size smaller - worked for me
I've bought quite a few Rivers shoes over the years- none was a success. All had the same problem- even though they were the right size as far as length goes they they slipped at the heel. Tries all different kinds of socks, knots, heel grips- had to return them all. Couldn't possibly happen with pull on boots could it?
YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE @ THE DANDY STORE, YOU-BLEW-IT!!!!
Picked these up for $20 with the sign up discount. At that price I don't care if they aren't leather or goodyear welted.
https://www.rivers.com.au/shop/men/shoes/boots/chelsea-boot/…
I have neber had any luck buying fake leather, its always cracks after a short while.
Two classic online 1 star reviews on that listing.
One complaining about the boot not being leather on a listing for "Non-Leather Chelsea Boot". The other complaining that this wasn't identical bar the colour to another boot in the Chelsea style because they wanted identical ones but didn't bother checking whether they were identical before buying them.
Nothing in either one about the boot, really, just their inability to choose properly.
does the signup bonus drops the free shipping ?
I just signed up and bought, and no. Shipping shows as free (Normally $8.80), and $10 credit comes off after shipping applied as free.
It did for me, dropped it to 39.50 then said shipping was 8 bucks or something.
Thanks OP. Bought several shoes from rivers before. All decent enough quality and for their prices on sale make them good buys.
Question though with tis kind of boots are they easy to put in and remove? Or you have have to struggle with two hands?
Easy peasy with one hand :)
Thanks for reply
What's the fit like? I've seen people say the run large but how about width? I have a very wide foot…
I have a size 11 AU foot, i would say the fit is spacious, without being loose - my right foot is a bit wider/thicker than my left and even it has a nice comfortable fit in these - had mine for 4 years so far, still going strong!
I found the lace up version long and skinny - no good for me.
Does anyone know if Rivers sales apply in-store as well? Or if not whether they'd likely have the same product in store to be tried on?
yeah would like to know if the sale is in store too
Last sale that was on, I purchased in store for the sale price. They had several of each colour.
I got the Chestnut colour at the last sale. I wear it in the office, no one's teased me yet…
In regards to size I am normally sice 9.5/10 and got size 8 here
Bought size 8 based on yours, and others' comments. Fingers crossed.
By the time I signed up, size 9 in chestnut was sold out. Needed some boots for Uni. Darn it :(
Why does university require leather work boots?
Science !
They are welt boots, not work boots. Reviews state that these boots are good for Casual Wear, Date Nights and Special Occasions. They are not steel capped or meant for tradies.
Don't have to be steel cap for Lab.
@michaelpls: Correct. It's simply a style preference. For the record I bought a couple of pairs of the Australian Standards too, which are steel capped, just because I liked the look of them. If they're too cumbersome, I'll just on-sell them. If I break even I'll be happy. Not every student wants to look like Poindexter. :)
I didn't know what a 'welt' was so I looked it up.
I have two pairs similar to these and can vouch for the value. The ones I wear to work took some time to stretch as they were skinny, the other ones were fine from the start. So a bit of hit and miss but great value for the price.
Went into Rivers Maribyrnong to try them on - plenty in stock but not on sale. Found my size (8, same as my size for pretty much all my other shoes, so I'm not sure about other comments in here about the boots running large), went home and ordered them online with the $10 sign-up bonus :)
For $40 they are impossible to beat I think
Thanks, OP.
Also, I was able to buy in the store just have to be nice to the checkout girl to get the 50% and the $10 off, bless her soul.
if only the light tan was that price…I already got one. hestnut…40 saved!
those who have flipper canoes or clown feet like me size 13 you can search shoe size. no bargain for thorpe who is size 16 or 17
These are far too cheap for Goodyear welted (even at full price). Probably better than your standard cemented boots but not in the same league as true welts.
That was close. I thought it is in US sizing until I double checked at last min.
For anyone interested, I bought a pair of these at last sale but returned them. The build quality seems solid enough, but they are nowhere near as sleek and refined looking as RMs, Redwing's etc.
They are much more of a workboot.
Given RM CC are $595.00 and RW workboots are $396+, $49.50 for a less refined version is to be expected.
lol on other breaking news, my kia doesn't seem to be as refined as a Merc.
An update.. I'd consider myself a US10.5-11 depending on the shoe. Ordered a 10 as they were said to run large… unfortunately it's too tight, and I'll be looking to exchange for an 11. So if you ordered a size-down, you may end up doing the same.
Anyone own these? Good price but I'd like a review…
