    • Haha, me too! At $45ea I'm thinking of picking up more…

    Wifi unreliable.

    • +12

get better wifi then… I haven't had any issues with the 9 or so bulbs I have throughout the house

    • My experience with Gen1 has been pretty good. Sometimes Google doesn't recognise them through Assistant, but I can always control via the app.

    • I've got 26 of them. The only ones with marginal wifi signal are GU10s in metal tracklight housings. I never lose connection though and they are always responsive.

      • +3

Wow 26! Must have cost you a small fortune.

    • I sometimes too have this problem.. I have 4 bulbs throughout my house, and 3 out of 4 sometimes have problems.. sometimes I canโ€™t control them via Siri or google home (it says the lights are not responding) then I have to switch them of for 10 seconds and turn them back on.. after that all good again.. it is a bit annoying, cause I also have Philips Hue and that never happens to them..

    • Mine cuts off from time to time and needs a power cycle. Sits 3m away from a ubiquity ap direct line of sight.

      • Do you have the airtime fairness thingy on?

        • No, would it help? I don't have many devices connected via wifi.

          • @zorrt: Well that's good it needs to be off otherwise the ao will drop the lights. In the beginning I also fixed the channel of the Ap as I had the same problem of lights dropping, vht in saying that now I switched it back to auto channel.

I have this bulb and can honestly say it is VERY good. It has an awesome colour range. as well as cool settings and app.

  • FYI, must be 4 of the same fitting (Edison 27 or Bayonet 22). I couldn't get any combo of fittings to apply the discount.

This is annoying, bought 4 mini's just the other day, oh well… great deal for those that get it!

  • Awesome price. Splitting a few with some friends!

  • Never had an issue with Wi-Fi. Using 2x ceiling and 1x bed side.

  • Very good price for these lamps

  • So if you use the light globes does the light switch become redundant?

    • Yep. Control via app or voice via Google/Alexa/apple. I use my with Xiaomi switches.

      • How do you program Xiaomi switches to work with these lights?

        • Via home assistant.

    expensive bulbs lol

  • this tech is so simple for today. they way everything is going. i give it 2 or 3 years to pop up on ozb for $20

    • Said everyone about every technology ever.
      What's your point?

Unless you're accessing this website from the library or a friends computer, you bought a phone or computer right? Why did you do that? Wait a few years and the same technology will be cheaper.
      ๐Ÿ™„

      • nooooooo not the same…

        phones get better every month.
leds that change colour arnt going to change much for maybe a decade or more (alot more). like a toaster or microwave.

wait a few years and the tech u were waiting for will be obsolete and probably not around anymore.
wait a few years for an colour led and u got your self a bargin.

        • That's funny because the lights I got 5 or 6 years ago were low lumens, crappy white colour because it was just rgb all turned on to make white and failed often

The ones I got 3 or 4 years ago were brighter, clean white colour as had dedicated white LEDs but failed often

The lights I got 2 years ago were brighter again, used half the amount of electricity as the previous ones and had warm white, cool white and colours, also better wifi connection and haven't had any die since I got them.

Sorry while I was writing all that I forgot what you said. Something about LED technology not changing over the years? ๐Ÿ˜œ

And yeah, if you wait two years for your microwave oven to be half the price, the difference is,I've had a microwave oven for two years, and you haven't. Also the money, you saved by not having a microwave oven for two years, you spent on electricity / gas with your conventional oven….

          • @Arty Marty: If you don't need it, don't buy it — save plenty!! LOL

          • @Arty Marty:

i have had addiction to buying high powered flashlights for about 10+ years now. and have thousands of dollars worth of them. i know all about leds.
your "even brighter" leds existed over 6 years ago. the tech dosent change that much its just gets brighter, and they usually stop around 1k lumens because as humans, we dont need 70k lumen bedroom light bulbs. in 20 years, u will still be buying a 1k lumen light bulb for your house.
the light on this thread has all the colours. your hoping for a bulb to come out next year with more colours? more than all the colours?.

And yeah, if you wait two years for your microwave oven to be half the price, the difference is,I've had a microwave oven for two years, and you haven't. your microwave analogy is confusing but i think your indirectly talking about leds..

so no i woudlnt be saving any money by not getting this bulb for 2 years. because THIS bulb is 11w. the same watts and brightness as the bunning led bulbs that i got 5 years ago. cos… u know the tech dosent change that much..

            • @ego22: Clearly you have your own reality on what's right so I won't bother to argue with you. You know all about LEDs, thermal dynamics, TBF ratings…

I would however love to know more about this 11w 1100 lumin b22/e27 led globe that bunnings sold 5 years ago.
As Carl Sagan is famous for saying "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence"
I'd just be happy with something simple like a make and part number because I know Philips or osram didn't make one that bunnings sold…

              • @Arty Marty: sorry, i was wrong. i just check our bulbs and they are coles branded 10w 900lm leds that we got 5 years ago. not bunnings. the only numbers on it are 1335. but if i just got that on the cheap at coles. just imagine all the "space age" leds philips and bunnings must of be pumping out back then. lol yeah, all led manufacturers know that everybody will dump all their old 6yo leds as soon as they come out with a new led with the exact same specs as the old ones, but run half a degree cooler.
and charge $150, cos we all go alittle nuts for that thermal dynamics.

try to remember all the "latest and greatest" leds that are out right now. then get back to me in 5 years. then tell me all about the new 9.7w 1100lm bulbs and blow my mind.

  • Why do people like lighting up their rooms like a cheap night club I always wondered

    • I have coloured bulbs in bedrooms. Beyond the novelty of it the first few weeks us or kids have never used the colour capability, I have no clue now in retrospect why I bought colour bulbs.

      IMO just get ambiance bulbs.

  • Will bunnings beat this price?

    • +1

Yes. But not without an argument.

Just be firm. I did it today. Have a screenshot of bunnings price policy and just keep reading it back to them.
"that place is an online seller, we don't match with them"
      Is that the only reason?
      "yes"
Your policy says Australian online OR physical store
"well it's not a cheaper price on an item, it's a buy x geyx free deal, we don't match them"
Seriously? Is that the reason why you won't match?
      "yes"
Well your policy says where the other sellers final price inclusive of… Is cheaper…
"well they are not a competitor of ours.."
You are both sellers, you both advertise, I decide where I buy from, you are competing..
"but if we sell at that price we are making a loss"
Look stop trying to weezle out of this. Your policy is your policy, it's what it says on your website. No less, no more. There is no mention of profit margin in your policy.

"ok, we will match and beat it"
      Thank you.
      ๐Ÿ˜

  • How do these compare to the hue lights?
I already have hue lights for some rooms, is it worth it getting these?

    • There are heaps of YouTube videos comparing them. Generally LIFX have better colour and better app but cost a bit more.

  • Okay, question: I got yeelight and they seem to work pretty well. Is there a reason why this lightbulb is better than that and worth getting at this price?

Even at discounted price, this lightbulb seems more expensive that yeelight at regular price…

    • They are similar, difference being the brightness levels. Yeelight is 800 lumens and lifx is 1100 lumens. You can choose either of them depending upon the brightness level you are after.

    • The main difference for this Lifx bulb in particular is, at 1100 lumens, you can use it as a single ceiling bulb to light up a bedroom.
Whereas the Yeelight is only 800 lumens and more suited to lamps and background lighting.

  • And thus, I've dipped my toes into HomeKit compatible smart lightbulbs.

  • And I just got bunnings to match that and beat it by 10% ๐Ÿ˜
