Cheapest WD Red 6TB that I could find, cheaper if you have eBay plus (Free Shipping) otherwise + $ Delivery.
Below are the maths.
1 x WD Red 6TB = $259.00 less 10% = $233.10
2 x WD Red 6TB = $518.00 less 12% = $455.84 ($227.92 each)

Sorry, I don't take cashback into the equation.
6% cash back is calculated on the ex gst price so it’s $12.81 not $14.09
Why hasn't the price of 4TB drives come down in price?? They've been pretty steady for a while now
Can I use this as the second drive or better to get the WD Black?
Depends what you want to use it for to be honest.
Reds are ideal if they're running 24/7 in a NAS or server and will be used as general storage.
Blacks are ideal for games without getting into SSD's.
What’s good for chucking into PC to store my movie collection? I like to transfer them to a portable drive to watch on my tv so need something I can download to & transfer from at full speeds
You can't go wrong with either. Reds will be the ideal choice as they run cooler, are generally cheaper and will be fast enough to transfer to other drives in a timely manner.
I use them in my server and they saturate the 1Gbps connection from my other computers.
@Goldfire: Thanks, so REDs are better than GREEN or BLUE in this case? BLACK is a bit expensive for a 6TB.
@wangsk: tl;dr
Black ~220MBps - performance
Red ~175MBps - 24/7 use
Blue ~175MBps - everyday use
Purple ~175MBps - surveillance
Best is a bit subjective, it really depends what you want to do with the drive. You won't really go wrong unless you grab a Purple drive.
Blacks are their fastest HDDs, ideal for games or media creation when an SSD is out of the price range for $/GB - they run at 7200rpm and use the most power and generate the most noise (which is still minimal). 5-year warranty.
Blues are for general use, everyday stuff, not as fast as Black and aren't ideal to be ran 24/7 like the Reds - usually 5400rpm or 7200rpm depending on model. 2-year warranty.
Reds are for 24/7 use in a NAS or server, they're a little bit slower than Black drives, but they run cool and use less power overall. 5400rpm. 3-year warranty (5-year warranty for Red Pro). I currently use thirteen of these drives, and I can't hear them from where I normally sit.
There are also Purple drives, used for surveillance cameras that are mostly writing to the drive and reading very little. This wouldn't suit what you want.
I believe Green drives have been phased out and instead are now the entry level SSD that WD offer. I haven't seen a Green HDD for a while now. These were for the "eco-friendly" approach, they run cool and are the cheapest, they also transfer the slowest - ~5400rpm-5900rpm
Personally, I'd opt for Red over Green/Blue, mostly because I run my stuff 24/7 and they have a longer warranty. I have a Black in my desktop that holds games, but I'm starting to lean towards picking up an SSD for games - they're really starting to come down in price now.
or shuck an 8tb from amazon
What's running reds, besides the MyCloud range (which are bloody expensive)?
anyones guess what in the elements - used to be reds - depends on stock in warehouse -most reds are gone though - supposedly whites now - air or helium
white label air
Sold out now.
Yep, that's a pretty good price per GB.
The 4TB drives are still leading with the best bang for buck, with these 6TB in second and the 8TB drives in third for the time being.
