Strange Tap Go Charge on Account by AGL

Hi, like to get some advice: I have a charge on my bank statement by AGL Pty Ltd. I haven't been with AGL for several years now, didn't get any backdating invoice lately either. They say it wasn't debited by them. The bank only tells me it was a tap and go charge done with my debit card. I can't think of any occasion I used my card for that amount (50 dollars) for tap and go… with AGL Sales Pty Ltd?? Any ideas what that could be? I can only think of ATM's or cash out where I would withdraw 50 dollars , but that wouldn't appear as AGL, would it? Can someone fraudulently use the descriptor AGL Sales Pty Ltd? If I enquire and it turns out that the charge was correct I have to pay 22 Dollars to the bank. So just thought I'd check if someone has any idea ws.. Thanks

    Did you ever have door knockers try and sell you a plan? AGL Sales Pty Ltd was ordered to pay 1.5m due to dodgy door to door tactics in 2013.

        You just had to retort! I mentioned 2013 because sometimes they hold on to old payment details such as direct debit. I realised after posting that this was tap and go.

    Are there more details of the transaction you can see via your online banking or bank app, like exact time, place, a longer reference, etc?

    E.g.: If it says it happened at 2am and you've never been out past midnight, then you can safely make a fraud claim.

      No unfortunately no other information. I was only told when i called the bank that it is a tap and go transaction. Which makes it even more difficult for me to understand.

    I got a strange text message saying my bill is due for payment with a link to the agl.com.au site. I'm not even with them.

    Just dispute it and get it reversed by the bank.

    Given the name is AGL Pty Ltd, it is a privately owned company, and it may not be related to AGL Ltd which is a publicly listed company. According to the ABR, the trading name for AGL Pty Ltd in Queensland was Eaton Hills Discount Drug Store until 9 August 2018. It probably has a different but similar name now. Does this sound familar?

      The OP says the company listed on the credit card is AGL Sales Pty Ltd. This is a subsidiary of AGL Energy Limited.
