Just saw this on Centre Com and thought it was a pretty good deal.
Interface:
SATA 6Gb/s, compatible with SATA 3Gb/s & SATA 1.5Gb/s interface
Sequential Read 550 MB/s
Sequential Write
SLC Cache 520 MB/s
QLC 80 MB/s

I was wondering about this, I'm thinking of using it for overflow games and extra VM's. My main 512GB M.2 one is always filling up but my 2TB SSHD is just too slow.
For $170 for 1TB of storage though, seems almost too good.
I would definitely have a peep at some benchmarks albeit some are synthetic so grain of salt.
$/gb it is definitely the best option compared to alternatives. There is currently a 1TB EVO on Futu deal on OzB somewhere for $191 delivered.
Generally speaking I will avoid QLC based SSD's but if I were to ever recommend someone get one it would probably be for someone in your position, replacing an already slow SSHD. The 2TB version of this SSD is considerably better, the problem is the SLC memory exhausts quickly and your stuck at slow QLC speeds thereafter (80MB/s in this case)
The 2TB is twice as fast with more SLC onboard so it's less likely to even experience the slow down.
For longevity I feel QLC has gone 1 step too far and I'll happily pay the premium for TLC.
My argument goes out the window if these were $100, but for under $200 there are superior options. May not matter at all in your circumstance though.
I appreciate your sentiment but I remember when the early gen SLC and MLC came out and everyone was saying "they'll never last" and I still have a G.Skill Falcon 64GB (which was 4x this price!) being used in a HTPC (I should check it's age/writes/reads) so I'll take it all with a pinch of salt.
Given it's a home PC not too concerned, there are usually early indicators if it's starting to go bad and everything important doesn't live on it anyway.
It'll be a VM/Gaming drive, so I'm mostly interested in short read/writes anyway, but I'll check out some reviews regardless, thanks for the heads up.
@downforce: No dramas, just my thoughts.
As a secondary SSD it's of less importance anyway. I'd hate to run one of these as my main SSD. I'll be in a similar position as you soon needing a 2nd SSD (I have 512GB M.2 also as main). For stuff to mostly just sit there and infrequent access, I'd probably get one too.
Incidentally, I also had a G.Skill Falcon 64GB but mine carked it within months.
@downforce: Yeah I still have an ancient Samsung 64gb ssd I paid about the same as you for and it’s still going strong with decent use.
MSY currently have this for $160.00
Does that include delivery? Umart are also doing them for $161 + delivery. Considering the price of the EVO, this is likely to be the normal selling price for these lesser drives.
Use this to price match, but don't touch centre com with a 10 foot pole. Apart from being banned here for sockpuppeting, they lied to me about requiring personal details for a receipt, claimed it was legally required, and when I threatened to walk out stole my name off my credit card and didn't tell me until the transaction was completed.
Recently bought one of these drives as gaming drive and it is pretty good so far. Latency isnt the greatest compared to an EVO/PRO but is still a lot better than my ye old Seagate Barracuda HDD
So it definitely gets a recommendation from me
