Telstra Internet - Temporarily Moved House to a Place with Internet

I have a contract with Telstra for internet and Foxtel have recently moved into a house that has internet and Foxtel already with Telstra. I had both services at my old place and was locked into a contract with Telstra for these. As my temporary place has both (paid for by someone else) I was wondering if there was a way I could get Telstra to pause my account on my old services so I don’t have to pay for them?

I thought about moving my connections to this house but my original plan was with NBN and my new house isn’t NBN ready yet.

I asked a Telstra store rep who said there was nothing I could do and I would still have to pay off my old contract even though I’m not using them. I don’t plan on living in my current house for more than 6 months so I would like the option to go back and resume my old Telstra and Foxtel plan in my new house.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

    You answered your own question…

I asked a Telstra store rep who said there was nothing I could do

    • Can't blame OP for asking. ISP reps aren't exactly painted in a positive light.

Unless things have changed all you have to do is notify Telstra and Foxtel that you are moving and they'll move your services over, you shouldn't need to pay out your existing contracts.

There may be a fee involved.

Usually a waste of time going to a Telstra store especially the franchise ones, they are only there to sell new products and services.

He does not want to move his services over

  • You will pay a fee to cancel ! NO way around it, its not month by month though, I think last time I did it was $90

For 6 months, it might be better to pay cancellation fees rather than paying for 6 months. After 6 months you can get into a new contract prob. Through jb-hifi and get a month free or any other offer at that time

  • depending on what you're doing with your old house, you COULD transfer the ownership of the service to the new owners?

    • Doubt other owners would want that though. OP reckons they're already paying for the services in the house.

OP might just have to bite the bullet and pay off the services…a pain, but doesn't look avoidable.

I had Foxtel through Telstra a couple of years ago and was able to pause it for a month while I went on holidays. Give them a call.

    • Exactly this.
