    You certainly haven't done bad:
    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=1074&typeID=

My issue is 'Up To' sales just never seem in good spirits of a "bargain" as they usually see two or three below cost items and the rest is all made up RRPs and crappy old stock.

    • You are right, there was some good deals on the Asus laptops but there was nothing else that was any worth looking at.

This laptop though is great, sound, blu ray player etc.. only fault i could find is the resolution but for under $1k cant really complain.

    • "up to" is a roundabout way of getting around the phishing legalities ;).

  • off every computer or just asus?

  • +2

This one looks like a good price too, another Asus: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256974034630/asus-kj… (cheapest Static Ice $899, most over $1000).

I am guessing that the prices on their website are the most the stores should be selling units for. My MAJOR critisims of HN is that the prices usually vary a LOT from store to store, making the uninformed buyer either lucky or ripped. Gerry may 'gerry' to it eventually.

May have a look instore to see if the Toshiba's are being dropped again too.

  • well its up to 40% all computers but Asus seemed to get the actual 40%, others have less off.

  • couldn't get the page. stated page not found…..

    • Yeh it's gone from their online shop, must of sold out, i picked up mine from the Hoppers Crossing store and i think they had the display still left which wasnt turned on.

Looks like they are flying out like hot cakes.

  • Here is a link to the Harvey Norman Asus Page:

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/search?addFacet=def_general_brand%3AAsus&cat=Computers+(5)%3A1255508442549

They've got some left of the ASUS K52JT laptops at $882, not as good as the N53SV but close.

OP you've got a great bargain there! I was looking into getting the N53SV too.
With the spec you've posted it should be a N53SV-SX068V (http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…), which easily costs over $1350.

I'm guessing the HN sales rep must have made a mistake and sold you a newly released laptop at clearance price!

Sorry to sound a bit sour, but I AM jealous that you've got this great laptop at that price! :P

Perhaps if you can post the receipt, and we can try to price-match it elsewhere it will be great!

    • +1

Hey Mykol, give any HN store a call and enquire about price of the laptop, it is $996 in all HNs, this was advertised in wednesday/thrusdays Herald Sun.

I'll post a pic of the advertised price from the Hoppers Crossing store and ill scan the receipt (remove my personal info) shortly.

Here is the pic from HN uploaded on ozbargain:

      http://upload.ozbargain.com/2011/04/28/5814_imag0055.jpg

      • Wow! That's amazing!
The only problem now is to source one!
        Thanks!

  • Oxley has one left on display I got the boxed edition
They freaked out had a price of $1560ish
    Yeeeehhhhaaaaa love ya oz bargains

    • Nice work, great laptop for the price!!

New technology is coming out soon and almost twice better so we expect some good bargains in the near future on the current/old stock.
    Cheers

    • +2

So just like any other time?

      • Yes it is ! and the 3d cad / gamers / photoshop users etc… will be happier.
expected to be a huge jump , apple negotiating and trying to secure themselves by getting a deal with intel as well so their machines can match & compete with the new hp/dell/acer notebooks.
        Cheers

        • +2

Weird that you say Cheers after everything, like you helped us out and we thanked you.

        • to Jesmond , the info is for Spets & whoever interested of what's coming up , no need to be negative or take it personaly .

    • huh ?
Just picked up a new sandy bridge i7 in the HN sale.
What new tech is coming that will outdo that in this part of the tech cycle.
      And twice as better hey.
      O.K.

  • well apparently I secured mine by CC - will know when I pickup tonight

    thanks OP - very tasty

am getting sick of fighting over the only computer we have that can handle crysis 2

    • How old is your computer? lol. Crysis2 reqs aren't very high.

      • I know :(

Which is why I need a new one!

        Can't play minecraft forever

I more go for netbooks, but then I just started on shooter games

        • haven't you seen all the computers that have crashed playing minecraft? there are youtube vids all over with guys with second gen i7 desktops, with crossfire gpus which die. granted, this is cos they try to set off a 20 million TNT explosion chain :P

My experience with HN is that your bargaining power all comes down to the SA/sales assistant. If you get a guy/gal that's been doing good/is in a good mood/has been making quite a few sales that day, then you're more than likely to have a good time (even if you're just testing the waters and seeing what price you could get/window-shopping).

The best kind of SA will take you to a computer terminal, show you their purchase prices for the products you want, and let you bargain over the table. If you get someone that's unwilling to bargain, give excuses in order to avoid dealing with your ozbargainess (poor stock, stock's in the back, cbf im tired…) then just walk away :) Thats my exp from my local HN. Don't forget ozbargain is the land of electronics sales lol.

  • No stock at North Ryde :-(

  • Does anyone know if this is a good buy:
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256975785316/asus-kj…

Searching the product on Static Ice reveals a few different models with the same (or very similar product codes). This one is advertised as a core i7, but searching around it seems there are a few different varieties of this one, most of which are core i5s.

On another note, is there no online checkout available at HN? Are we expected to call up, reserve our product and pick it up? Might be why they are lacking in sales…

Great first post - will check out HN tomorrow.

Although I must say I hate it when a new poster says "Please be nice" or "Go easy on me". Its just a stark reminder of how nasty OzBargainers can be to people trying to post a deal and end up having a new arsehole torn into them, and how afraid new posters are of posting a first deal because of such behaviour. Shameful really. A plea to first time posters: Dont apologise for your post. If people dont like it, mods can remove your post, users can neg your post, and they can post a (negative) comment, but dont come across as apologetic for trying to help them get a deal. We all make mistakes and if a new poster does make a mistake, then Ozbargainers should learn to get their point/feedback across without being cruel about it.

    • Great point Trishool.

By the way, I wouldn't wait til tomorrow. Don't know where you are but I rang all HNs in Melbourne and they had all sold out of the ASUS N53SV for $996 but luckily I have a friend in Wonthaggi so I rang the HN there and they had 2 in stock. Well 1 left now that I bought one :)

  • Sandy bridge i7
    6gb RAM
    GT 540
    640gb hd
    Blu Ray Player + burner

wow fro under $1k that's super cheap!

  • Any full HD 16" or 17" laptops amongst these?

  • Getting rid of the stock they bought at $1AUD in preparation to buy at $1.15AUD(it's coming).

  • No more stock in WA… :( but when i did call the salesperson did ask whether i wanted to order it and he guaranteed that i'll get the same price! not sure if they'll actually get stock but he said wait is around 2 weeks normally.

    • Talking to a service rep via email and I've got the same response. Says he can order one in at the special price, but will require a deposit of course. So, for those who missed it, there still may be hope!

  • well i got mine, and if the sales person was to be believed the only had one allocated (mine had been on display for a day)

I caved and got the 2 year "extended warranty" for $99 - I figure at the very least if something blows up I will break even

and I have not had an asus yet where the power supply hasn't acted odd

  • can some one tell me whats the name of the laptop ??? i would like to ask HN and maybe order it asap.. THANKS !!

  • Picked up mine this arvo at Wagga HN, they had three, now two.

Very happy so far, thanks ozbargain for another great deal, just what I was looking for.

    Part No ASUS N53SV-HDU2-SX07

    APC review,

    http://apcmag.com/notebookhunter/asus-n53sv-hdu2-sx07.htm

  • No lappy's in between 10" and 15.6"?? Crap. What happened to the portable computer, not these giant 15.6" monsters which you need two hands to carry around, and crush your genitals when sitting on your lap, and kill the cat if you drop it.
The 10" is too small a screen, plus not powerful.

12.1", 13.3", and 14.1" laptops please, proper portable computing.

    • +1

15.6" is widely considered the optimum balance between weight and screen space. Any smaller, and the low resolution and lack of screen space makes it unbearable to do work on, watch movies, or play games. Any larger and you're losing portability and comfort. As mentioned, these laptops are just over 2.5 KGs. If that's what can "kill the cat" then so could your work briefcase, a 3L bottle of milk or even a couple of thick books. Additionally, the smaller laptop sizes come at the price of a LOT of specs. You can't expect the same amount of hardware to fit in a 12.1" as in a 15.6". Taking a look at the whole "netbook" franchise proves this point - with many of them using hardware that makes me cringe.

Although I can possibly understand one's desire for a smaller laptop, I cannot understand how a 15.6" is not "proper portable computing".

      • There is little or no relationship between screen size and screen resolution. People should be buying based on resolution. Prepondance of 15.6" screens is purely due to people buying quantity (size) over quality (dpi). There is no comparison between looking at PDF document on 1920x1200 and crappy/cheap 1366x768 on a same size 15.6" screen.
Extremely high dpi is what makes iPhone4 so amazing.

        • +1

The words "iPhone" and "amazing" should never be in the same sentence…

    • You need to work out more

    • I'm with you on this up to a point. Actually its weight that's the issue for me, not screen size. I would like under 2kg.

  • Anyone else lucky enough to get one?
Gonna head out soon to the HNs nearby.
    Wish me luck

    • Best wishes from me lol.
If ur a Sydneysider try the one in Auburn. They pretty much have heaps of stock.

      • Just called'em, domayne should have received some yesterday, but didn't.
HN Superstore had six of them five minutes ago. Now 5 :o)

        • Aw..
I'm from melbourne. Anyone know of any stores with stock?
I just called four of the closest stores and they all told me they were out of stock.

        • sold out in auburn

  • Can anybody comment on the battery life?

    • +1

it's not the greatest, mine did about 2 and half hours yesterday and if you try playing a blue ray it will waste much more.

    • +1

apparently around 59 minutes with gaming, and 3hrs 48mins for less demanding stuff. Seems ok for its market.

      http://forums.techarena.in/reviews/1390741.htm

  • cannot see N53SV on the HN site

  • GOOD NEWS FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN PERTH. i asked HN and they said they do have some stocks in WA and you have to go to one of any HN store and do a raincheck. ill copy past the email.

  • Just went down to my local HN in Melbourne to inquire about the stock. Apparently they are all out, but if you go during the sale period they will put one on order for you at the sale price. The sales rep couldn't give me an ETA due to the happenings in Japan, but if they can't source the model for you they will replace with a similar specs computer.

    • Hi njninjar which store in Melbourne is this? Called up Chadstone and CBD, they are not offering anymore of Asus N53. According to them its a runout and it won't be offered anymore.

      • Hi tot_tots, I went to Moorabbin store where the sales guy was really helpful and said he'd order one in for me. Best of luck, hope you get one too!

        • I couldn't get an order as well.
Went to two stores and called up another two.
          :(

  • I just picked up one this morning
    FYI the model is N53SV-SX073V
Specs are nearly identicle to the SX068V mentioned above, EXCEPT no USB3 port which I am slightly dissapointed about, and also no express slot which also rules out the possiblity of a USB3/eSATA add on.
I am however very satisfied with the price and the build and quality of this unit, love the black wood pattern on the palm rest

    • hey apparently this laptop is affected by the Cougar point problem. Get a refund ASAP. I am getting mine tomorrow.. no wonder i been having pixelation problems, cant even surf with IE9

      • Mines fine, theres a sticker on the palm rest saying "Revised Version" so I assume the SATA issue has been fixed? What issues are you having?

  • Got 1 yesterday, the SX073V model at Auburn HN store, they had 6 left. So far pretty good but only 1 problem, the display gets pixelated if i turn the Intel HD graphics 3D preference up to performance instead of quality, and also it comes if i enable desktop composition in advanced settings. Anyone has the same problem??

  • With less than an hour running time and less than four hours for undemanding tasks, the N53SV is not really attractive…note it's bad battery life

    • yeah with those battery-killing specs you would expect to have crappy battery life
