Optus - Activate New SIM - Account Details of Previous Number Appeared??

Hi All,

not sure what to make of this. But i recently signed/activated a new sim optus card.

when i selected a number off the list, the usual enter your details pre-filled with someone details I've never heard of.

this included their email/dob and home address.

who do i report this breach of privacy to? I would be pissed if my details were leak out like this.

  • Personally, I'd just ring up Optus and tell them that someone else's details have appeared and play dumb about how bad it is and whatever about how pissed off the other person might be, blah blah.

    They might be "nice" and offer you something in the hope that you will keep your mouth shut.

        It's not a matter of whether the call centre people care or not - larger companies have strict procedures for reporting compliance breaches, including privacy.

        Because the phone number already seems to be registered, they'll need to do something - either wipe the details off that number or provide a new number. Who knows that they might offer.
