Tangalooma / Moreton Island Trip Needing Advice

Wanting to take family of 4 (7&9yrs old kids)

Thinking of Tangalooma or moreton. There is just to much info and tour and activity to digest.

Hoping to get some help from experienced travellers to those place.

  • Snorkling
  • Para sailing (age limit?)
  • Some water sport

Above are probably some activities the kids will like.

Would you recommend stay at which resort? On the island ? Or off the island for cheaper rate and ferry across each day for 4 people.

What's other must do? Anything to avoid?

Budget is hoping everything under 3k. For 3-4day trip. Lives in Brisbane. Maybe make 3 day trips???

Any advice would be much appreciated to get me started.

Thanks

  • last time I was there, saw a lot of people use the micat (normally vehicle ferry) for day trip, just individualwalk on walk off, not sure about the price. if you are not planning to drive on the island, then the only place to stay is the resort. there is no road so 4wd only. the resort has some water sport stuff like scuba dive, snorkel, sailing etc.

another option would be joining tour from Sunset safari, (again, not too sure about the price, but seem popular)

cape moreton lighthouse is well worth the visit. awesome place to watch sun rise.

would avoid sand boarding thing, weather is just too hot for that.

    • Thanks. Will check out sunset safari.

  • With the driving - it's 4WD only and can be easy to get bogged (to avoid it you have to drive fast which is alarming). If you do get bogged you either get help from other 4WDers or the police (they may take a few hours).

Meals are the resort are pretty basic.

  • Does anyone know if P&O cruise dock there then what happens?

What activities will be restricted and stopped temporarily?
