What Is The Easiest Way to Get Bitcoin to Pay a Bill with?

Is there an easy way to buy Bitcoin so that I can pay for a service with it? I need about 34 Euro worth. Previously I always paid with either Paypal or Credit Card but the company has stopped accepting either of those and now wants Bitcoin or International Bank transfer.

I don't know anything about Bitcoin but I saw Coinspot, except that they want ridiculous hoops jumped through to join them. I don't have a drivers licence or passport. I'd like to do just a simple domestic bank transfer or Bpay. Could someone please suggest some options?

Edit: For those people saying that the company is a scam because they accept Bitcoin, I have been buying this service for about 6 years now. They are completely legit and I used to pay them via credit card or paypal but they have stopped taking those and only take low fee payment options like Bitcoin and direct transfers from a list of western European banks which aren't any good for non-Europeans.

I'd appreciate suggestions for an online service that sells bitcoin and takes payment by Bpay or bank transfer from an Australian bank. It's only for about $55 worth so I don't want to jump through a million hoops and give my life away just to buy a little bitcoin.

localbitcoins.com chose the bank deposit option, this will tend to have the best rates.
Usually very little if any ID needed, but you will have to deposit the cash in a bank branch or perhaps an ATM that does cash deposits.

EDIT: The reason for the hoops no matter where you go is because if you pay for a method that can be reversed it adds a lot of risk for the seller.

They want bitcoin?? Why? So, they have $34 today, and tomorrow they have $30? Good lord. I'd have people try and buy bikes off me lately and offer me bitcoin. No, sorry, Just cash out the amount you want to give me and give me the cash. I could receive the BTC and an hour later, it's worth a lot less.

But I am more curious as to what you are buying that the company only accepts bitcoin…

It seems like you don't quite grasp the utility, regardless of the volatility.

My guess, something either very nefarious like off the darknet market, or something not so, like a private torrent tracker membership or VPN/private email service.

Oh, I grasp the utility, don’t worry about that. But with volatility (read: "plummeting value"), this can degrade the utility of it. I know I can accept it and it has some intrinsic value, but with the way the market is at the moment, its value today may not be what it is tomorrow. 18 months ago, I would make a win out of it. Today, I would most definitely make a loss.

Most vendors accepting BTC will give you a grace period.

You tell the vendor you want to pay €34
They automatically provide address and amount to be paid within a set period (locking in the price)
You purchase the coin and transfer.

@owli: Wouldn't that be open to abuse. Like buying an option for free.

            • @JIMB0: That is a great way to look at it, some vendors offer 15mins some offer 1-3 hours.
I am not sure how the payment processors calculate the risk, I assume the 'premium' for the 'option' must be built into their conversion rate.

  • There are bitcoin ATMs in Sydney. Be careful though, why do these people want bitcoin? You might just be flushing your money away and never get what you paid for.

    • I'm in country Victoria and I've never seen a bitcoin ATM. The company is legit, I'd be more worried about the bitcoin sellers stealing my money than the company I want to pay.

Any business only accepting bitcoins is probably a scam.

Have you got something on your computer demanding bitcoin to unlock it?

Thanks for your suggestion but livingroomofsatoshi appear to be pointless (why pay a third party with Bpay to make a Bpay payment for me?), and only for Australian bills. Have I misunderstood?

  • You won't find a single Australian online service that accepts domestic bank transfer or Bpay and doesn't require identity verification. They are required by law to verify your identity.

If your business exchanges money (whether Australian or foreign currency) for digital currency, or digital currency for money, then you have obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006. These obligations include:

Registering and enrolling your business with AUSTRAC
Adopting and maintaining an AML/CTF program that mitigates and manages your business’s money laundering and terrorism financing risks
Reporting suspicious matters and threshold transactions to AUSTRAC
Keeping records relating to customer identification, transactions, and your AML/CTF program.

What forms of identity do you have access to?

If you are on the electoral roll and have a medicare card you can use an app created by living room of satoshi called Wallet of Satoshi (this uses the lightning network so make sure the service you are paying for accepts lightning network payments).

I have active accounts at Westpac, NAB, CBA, Ubank, and I have Visa, Mastercard and Paypal. I don't understand how $50 can be money laundering.

      • There is a $6 fee for international transfer with CBA via internet banking. Surely easier than setting up a bitcoin acct in your situation.

  • Maybe you can try Livingroom of satoshi?

  • Try coinmama. You need only a passport to verify if you got one.

  • Why would you want to buy Bitcoin to pay a bill???
