  • Wow, that's certainly quite generous of them to be giving out free coffee from 9-5pm! I remember Starbucks only had free coffee for 2-3 hours with their fairtrade coffee? Certainly a plus from me :)

    free always = +

  • Fantastic! There's a san churros just around the corner from where I work. I hope they do this for takeaways.

Certainly did a take-away for me! Not only did I not get my hand stamped, there was no-one in the place, just walked up to the counter!
So go nuts ozbargainers in the Prahran area - the coffee was actually very good too!

      • I went to the Prahran store and was told I needed to bring in the voucher to get one. WTF!!!

        • do as some of the others below have done - write to head office to advise… head office will take care of communicating to the store the correct proceedures

so now I just have to wait for the price of petrol to go down, so I can drive to Vic for a free coffee.
SA misses out on this one :( the state that the rest of the world forgot…?
I'm off to raid the fridge for something that resembles a donut and chocolate sauce…yum
    Gave it a +vote anyway cos it's a great deal/freebie

    • I skipped over this intitially because I saw it was mentioning specific states and just assumed WA wouldn't be part. Finally we are part of the gang!

The last time I was at San Churro at Lygon St (I think it was San Churro or is there another churro place there?), I ordered some churros with chocolate. After I had eaten, I noticed I had been overcharged by about $2 and when I queried, the gentleman said it was for the strawberries that came with it. On the menu it didn't mention any strawberries or the extra charge. After arguing with the man, he refunded me the money, but did not seem to understand my point of view that it was really dodgy to charge in that manner.

Anyone else have any strange experiences like this?

That's dodgey. My guess would be that Lygon St is a tourist trap, so they probably supplement their income by ripping off tourists.

  • Freebie nice, pity there isn't an inner city location in NSW.

  • Wow, looks like they just changed their website to launch the deal, http://www.sanchurro.com/index.html

    Have edited link/description.

  • Are they going to run out of coffee on Wednesdays now? I can imagine a lot of people will be lining up for the freebie…

  • Ah, what the hell, the only one in QLD is in Maroochydore? :( Still, good deal so +

  • I know this is also a marketing stunt (in support of fairtrade coffee so thats a plus), but did anyone else think of having some lovely churros with their free coffee? Damn I miss those.

  • awesome…free coffee. But no idea where the San Churro coffee shop is!
dont drink coffee either…but still a great news for ppl who loves coffee.

I'd be all over this if it was advertising fair trade hot chocolate!

  • over 1.5k clicks around ?500? will be redeemed.

    ouch

    • It will be more than that, word spreads.

  • Hand stamped? How?

  • Almost worth the drive from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast for this!!!

  • Hand stamped? I wonder what soap would take that straight off…

    • +1

Alcohol swabs should do the trick

  • good deal i live near the vic one

  • sooooooooo cool! Coincidentally, I'm actually going to be in Glebe every Weds for the month of May

  • Coffee is really good. I just had one at QV,Melb.

The stamp is really hard to dry.Watch out if you are wearing a light color shirt.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I had one this morning. Nothing says good morning than free tasty coffee before start working :-P (at least, better than the instant one in office coffee room).

  • Had one at QV. It was chaos with people leaving and coffees not being picked up. Waited 20mins then just grabbed one that wasn't taken. Best to avoid at 10am i guess!

Tried to get one at the Lygon St store but was told by a very grumpy guy that I had to spend $5 in store. It's not mentioned anywhere in T&C..

    • +3

well send an email to headoffice and complain to teach that person a lesson.

I've emailed the 2 negative comments on this thread regarding their Lygon St branch to San Churro HQ. Idiot managers/franchisees like this don't realise their dodgy actions do nothing but ruin their brand.

Edit: Just got a response from them.

        Thank you for your email.

Our operations manager has been in touch with the store owner to ensure the correct redemption of free coffees are provided to our customers. My apologies if you were told incorrect information about the free coffee deal at our Lygon St store.

They will be serving free regular sized coffees every Wednesday in the month of May going forward.

Great job livert. My guess is that each location is separately owned by a different franchisee, as I've seen group buy deals for the Brunswick St one separate to the Lygon St one. If this is a promotion by their HQ, some franchisees in busy places such as Lygon Street may not be happy with this deal and choose to put terms on it or not honour it, which would be in violation of their franchisee agreement.

Just my guess. I'm not a lawyer, I only play one on the Internet.

        • Thanks for following this up! I might send my own feedback to them.

Yes it is very disappointing that someone with an attitide problem has ruined the brand for me. As I waited in line I actually was going to buy some chocs, but now I won't be returning to that store!

There WAS a little sign up mentioning the free coffee offer but funnily enough, a bag of beans had been placed in front so you couldn't read it at all! Very dodgy.

  • Pretty good - went today at around 3:30 at the QV store. Waited for around 3 or 4 mins and got my free coffee!

    • Just had a look at QV, the line is out the door now. I went to my regular cafenatics

  • +1

What about people who don't take caffeine, can we still get a free drink other than coffee?

  • Pays to be in sleepy old Perth. Went down to the Leedie shop and there was noone there. Long Black was ok but quite weak. Needs half the amount of water or twice the number of shots. I don't think I'll be rushing back anytime soon. Although no worse than the other chain rubbish out there.

    • +1

Well, it's free so I guess you get what you didn't pay for :)

  • +1

Yeah I've also paid $5 for Gloria Jeans at Melb airport which tasted worse than dishwater so can't really complain

  • Got this today, delish! No line, only a 1min wait for the lady to make it for me. So worth the short train trip during my lunch break, mmmm coffeeeee!
