Boost, Is it possible to activate now with new number and port my current number later?

I got the boost prepaid SIM pack today. Can I activte with the new number to try out a few days to see how the signal is in my area before porting the current number from Vodafone, or does it need to be at the point of activation. I am hesitant to activate without knowing this.

    You could always just port back to Vodafone the same day if you don't like boost.
