I got few ikea ladda brown batteries of AA and AAA sizes from the Richmond store. They both say it's Made in China. Since when these become made in china?
They used to be made in japan as per here: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/54797

They didn't have white in stock
Apparently browns were always made in China. Also low capacity, so you goofed.
It's MIJ as per here: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/54797
The brown ones are rubbish. It's the white ones you want. The white ones are just rebadge Eneloops.
White ones are MIJ for sure? brown ones used to be mij as well: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/54797
It’s moreso that the cells state that they’re made in Japan, whereas the brown cells say China, and so far as we understand that there is only one plant in Japan that makes the cells, which are Panasonic Eneloops, so we conclude that they are indeed also Eneloops.
It may be that the brown cells were made in Japan, and were in some capacity also Eneloops, however now being made in PRC they’re likely not.
With all this talk about brown is bad, white is good, I feel like this isn't a safe space.
But glad I walked in. Good to know white is still good.
Both white and brown used to be Made in Japan.
If the brown are now made in China I am worried the white ones will switch too =(
Well Panasonic shifted production of Eneloops for some markets (including Australia) from Japan to China so it's entirely possible. Not sure why it matters though, quality control should remain the same either case.
Panasonic bought the Eneloop name and shifted production to China. The factory never left.
The Japanese factory is still running but hard to economically source the batteries in Australia. The Ikea Ladda were a good cheap source, otherwise have to buy expensive Fujitsu (or order Amazon Basics NiMH from US).
Unfortunately the quality isn't the same. Even the advertising material has different self discharge rates/cycles. etc.
Just checked the brown ones I bought early last year for low power devices. They were indeed made in Japan.
That's it. Today I returned them for the white ones. They are still made in Japan. Not sure how long that will hold! :/
Why did you buy browns?
