Strata Aircon Installation

I want to install aircon in Strata managed unit. I have reached out to Strata for an approval and they have advised to provide written quote, output sound level and installation location.

I was planning to hire someone from Airtasker so not sure how written quote will work and how they could also mention about sound level on this quote.

I am hoping someone can guide me.

  • Sound levels are on a sticker on the outdoor unit.

Manufacturers websites also generally mention dB levels.

they want a quote from proper A/C guy , not airtasker or gumtree guy

as for sound output, get manufacturer technical report for the chosen model

There are a/c businesses (sole traders) who do jobs on air tasker. Add the requirement to the brief you write on airtasker and you will soon find out if the bids include reference to these requirements.

All they want to know from you is
    1. How noisy the outdoor unit is (should be a sticker on the box telling you)
    2. Where the outdoor unit will be installed, in the backyard for example (where are they installed in your neighbours units)
    3. It'll be installed by a professional installer, who'll leave the place neat and tidy.

So someone without insurance, yeah they won't like that.

  • If you purchase your aircon from Bunnings, they can install it too for a pretty good price:

Other businesses that sell airconditioners will offer a similar service at a competitive rate. It might be cheaper in the long run.

Air tasker or not you still need a licensed electrician and plumber to install it. Just ask them to show they are HVAC licensed. A lot of the licensed guys and girls do cash jobs on weekends from air tasker so they just need to write up a quote and have an ABN.

Either they'll be working for themselves and air tasker/gumtree is not a bad way to advertise OR they'll work for a company that does them and want to earn some extra cash so they'll have a little business on the side. If they can't type you up a professional quote then don't use them. They probably aren't licensed.

Again for the location, you need someone to advise you where to put it that will be most effective. Presumably, it is a rental? Or are you asking for permission for the outside units? Maybe ask for 2 or 3 options then you can have a first preference but if the answer is "no", you have another location ready to go.

    • What do you mean electrician and plumber? Most A/C guys have appropriate certs to splice into circuitry as required. You don't need to call out a plumber just to drain some condensate.

I wouldn't use Airtasker for installing AC, you need a professionally licensed person that can provide warranty/invoice/quote etc. Airtasker is for Millennials that can't butter their own bread.

what makes you think there aren't any licensed trades on Airtasker.

Keep in mind AC must be installed by someone with arctick licence and generally strata will require they have public liability insurance aswell

  • Thanks everyone for your valuable advice!

  • If you are in Sydney:

I installed a Daikin last year. Arncliffe Babylon (electrical wholesalers) did the supply & install. The price was very competitive. They gave me a written quote.

The install was 9/10 but I inspect "engineering stuff" for a living and I'm fussy.

    Service / communication - 10/10.

Price $1636 for a 3.5kw reverse cycle inverter split system, back to back instal - 10/10

Daikin unit 10/10 - quiet, gets cold quick, doesn't vibrate, uses minimal power (a work colleague has same system and put a monitor on his).

Your strata sounds weird. Mine had a bi-law that just said it wasn't to annoy people (or words to that affect)
