First deal, be kind

Have been looking for a smart trainer for Zwift and have been eyeing this off for a few days and decided to go for it this evening. Chain Reaction/Wiggle are currently having an up to 40% off sale for some Tacx trainers and are selling this for $549. After you add the $20 off code and 2.5% Cash Rewards cashback it comes to $516 which is a pretty good price for any smart trainer let alone this one

RRP on the site is misleading but this model at aussie retailers is currently being sold for $729.99 @ Pushys and an eye watering $1078.99 @ ProBikeKit

Comprehensive product reviews here and here

Tacx Vortex also on sale for $404.99 + 2.5% cashback

  • I wish neo 2 was on sale

  • Good deal

  • I like the idea of Zwift but a new gym is opening down the road from me with expresso bike which i used to ride. For $12.50 a week i get the use of the bikes plus all of the other equipment. This is a good buy thou and Zwift is a good system but the us$15 monthly subscription kills it for me.

  • +1

Almost thought about it but the cost of all the accessories made me think twice.

  • The Bushido will give you an extra 50W on zwift…now that's an upgrade! 😂

  • Zwift is great but expensive. You need to use it regularly to get the benegit. For those of us that work city jobs and cant easily get out for pre/post work rides it can be handy to jump on the zwift after dinner to keep up the K's. There are a couple of Zwift competitors in open beta at the moment and free to use. Road Grand Tours is one my freeloading uni student son is using for free using my wahoo kickr and his own laptop! it looks very similar to zwift on the screen but with way less riders and less places to ride.

    • The only good part on Zwift as well is Bluetooth and iPad. Can'e be bothered with Laptop and having to buy a ANT+ adapter!

  • OP…. Can you let us know what you think of it - when you get it? Thinking of pulling the trigger myself. The specs looks good but not sure about the no power / generator part…

    Thanks

    • No worries, due to arrive Wednesday

      • hey, just wondering if you received and how your going with it.
im still deciding between this and the flux, but i cant justify the extra cost.
the only thing that puts me off the bushido is the review off athletic tech review http://athletictechreview.com/2017/04/22/wahoo-kickr-snap-ve… about the incline only being around 3-4degrees due to not enough power being generated at low speed since the unit is not powered.
But is this really an issue if your only an average rider.

        • It's going well. I've done around 10 rides on it. I haven't really had any issues with it other than my first ride (below) and never had an issue keeping the unit powered on even at 10%+ grades. Based on my (limited) testing it does appear to power itself at very low watts/cadence so perhaps athletic tech review had a dud unit or what they were testing was an edge case - 65rpm @ 3% doesn't seem like a particularly real world scenario

On my first zwift ride I managed to destroy a brand new gp 4000s ii as in my excitement to start riding I didn't get the tyre seated properly at the right psi (100) and shredded/melted the tyre when climbing due to slipping on the roller… completely my fault but still very annoying. I've since bought a basic wheel and cassette off gumtree and I am waiting for a trainer tyre to arrive this week. If you are thinking of getting one I would strongly recommend getting a trainer tyre, I just got the wheel for the convenience of not having to switch tyres when I want to ride indoors

Overall very happy with my purchase and will likely get extensive usage during winter

Edit: I should mention that I've been using the Tacx desktop app for rides mostly as I don't particularly like/agree with how the zpower algorithm in Zwift calculates speed

          • @funk44: that sounds really good now, apart from the poor tyre shredding. i ended up purchasing a flux for $717, but now im wondering if i really should have stuck with the bushido. still have to purchase a cassette so will end up being $800.
Im really losing the portability of the bushido as the flux doesnt fold and is a nice 16kg.

            • @gdbaker81: $717 for a flux is a bloody good price and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Hit up Gumtree for a cassette, you'll be able to pick up a 10/11 speed ultegra for pretty cheap

  • Thats a great price - what do you think of the Tacx Booster for a first bike trainer for use in Winter?
