What do people use this for in 2019 when mobiles come with so much data and can easily be shared with wifi?

      Battery life?

don’t like to punish the phone battery if i can avoid, also allows you to let others tetherof a model without you tying up your phone eg family when on holidays.

Better connection personally, depends on the particular wifi device though.

Mobile hotspots are quite crappy ping usually

I have at least 2 and sometime 4 devices heavily using data from this device. Last thing I want to do is take a phone call when 4 devices are pumping data and put it up against my head. Also if I need to take my phone (to lunch etc) the other devices won't lose their data connection as I can leave this on my desk. Other big plus is attaching external antennas for better data reception. Not to mention it won't drain my phones battery and the fact that I can use my phone as a backup if I am on the road all day and this device runs out of juice.

Seems to be only CAT 4 (150mbps)

  • No data?

    • that is right. i thought it would come with 4GB or something…………

  • Target has the optus Alcatel one at $25.. https://www.target.com.au/p/optus-alcatel-mw41cl-4g-broadban…

    • How do they compare?

      • Looks like old version, but found below differences in bands:
Band 20 (800) and 41 (2500) are on the newer 5570.. other than that shows same max download speed and has same bands.
For that price I'd suggest the 5570.
I wonder though how it compares against the expensive AC800S ($240!)???

  • The catalogue doesn't mention anything about any included data - can anyone confirm if it comes with any?

  • Not easy to find by the way, had to go to 6 stores..
