Slightly cheaper if purchased through the App.

You can also get the Lii-500 with power adapter for a few dollars more. I suggest purchasing one with an AU plug from eBay/AliExpress so no need to use a converter for the EU or US plug. The power adapter should have the following specs DC 12V 2A with positive polarity tip (5.5 x 2.1MM).

Check lygte-info.dkReview for specs and features.

Thanks OP, been waiting ages for a good price on these!

    excellent charger.

have one for testing capcaity of recovered 18650 cells.

In regards to the power adapter - you can use the power supply/ac adpater from an old oprus modem (or possibly any modem)

  • Does this do anything a Nitecore D4 didn't?

    • This can charge all 4 bays at 1A simultaneously, also has an analyzing function.

  • Might sound like a strange question, but do these smell bad?
I had another design that absolutely reeked when it heated up. It smelt like off-gassing plastic and fire retardant.
I ended up using it outside on the porch.

    How is this one?

I have the Lii-202 and Lii-500, no strange smells from mine.

Not a strange question. Counterfeit chargers are sometimes sold on non-official supply channels, and frequently have substandard design and parts. Overheating and burning smells are the commonest indicators.

One of the charger companies, Nitecore, have tried to defeat the counterfeiting by adding a hologram sticker on the box, and a scratch-off unique code that you can verify only once on their website.

Here's an article about some of the counterfeits:

      • Cheers for that.
In my case, I am fairly sure that I had an original it just was a 'stinker' especially as it heated up.
I fully appreciate that there are dodgy counterfeits out there. Seems the chinese will counterfeit anything!

  • Will this recharge dead batteries below 0.9V?

    • +1

No it won't, a dumb(timer based) charger will. I have used the method in the link below to successfully revive a dead NiMh battery, might want to give it a try.

I'm assuming you are talking about NiMh batteries, not lithium-ion batteries.

If you have at least one NiMh battery above 1.1V, there's also a method of shorting that battery to the flat battery. Slightly risky, because there are situations where very high currents can flow (such as the dead battery having failed short). When high currents flow, the wire you are using to short the batteries can become very hot, maybe even melting, and possibly damaging the good battery as well as your fingers.

If you are considering buying a separate charger just for really flat batteries, instead buy a 2.2-ohm 5-Watt resistor for under a dollar from Altronics or Jaycar, and use that to connect between the batteries (positive to positive through the resistor, and negative to negative with a separate conductive something, which could be a wire or a piece of cutlery or a sheet of metal. The resistor will safely limit the current to under an amp, and if something goes wrong, won't get so hot that it will burn you.

You only have to connect the batteries (through the resistor) for about ten seconds, and the flat battery will come up to a high-enough voltage that the charger will detect it.

+1 for this charger, bought about a year ago & use it 2 charge my Vape cells (20700 & 18650 cells), also good for Eneloop's etc..

Just be weary of the current you select for charging, 1amp fine for bigger cells but for AA & AAA i'd keep to the lowest, which is 300mA…

  • Can anyone recommend a specific link to buy a compatible power adapter?

    • I just did a quick search, you may find it cheaper https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AC-100-240V-Converter-Adapter-DC…

It has to be 2A charger, if anything less the Lii-500 will switch off if you try to charge 4 X AA at 1000mA, also needs to be 12V.

      • The reviews aren't very inspiring :/

        • I only did a quick search and hadn't read the reviews but yes stay away from that one.

There are a few others listed, just make sure it has the same specs as above, there's also eBay money back guarantee to fall back on if an item isn't as described. I doubt they will make you send it back being such a low value item, in my experience they will just refund you.
