Where I Can Actually Fly a Drone in Melbourne-Vic?

I it worth to buy a Drone?

I really want to but the drone(Mavic Air), but after some research, I couldn't find the place to fly it.
CASA app is allowed to fly lots of places in Victoria, but the councils, park Victoria and … not.
90% of the lands in Victoria are part of parks of Victoria, which is no fly zone.

so should I still consider buying it?

please DO NOT fly it near the airport.

    • off course, 5km from the airport and fly below 120m.

      • Naturally, don't go 'off course' anywhere near an airport :)

An airport would be the most logical of places seeing as it's primary purpose is for things that fly.

Just need to make sure that it's flying where the planes are, to make sure those are flying-safe areas.

Fly it around the airport with all the other drones.

    • Apparently people don't like jokes…

    • Safety in numbers.

You need to fly it where there aren't people. Not even at beach especially. Having said that. There's no policing on these things. As usual the law is far from instigated. But yes don't fly near airport. Even around suburbs is not ideal as just for courtesy people should have privacy to their own backyards.

Just ensure you have visual sight of the drone. These things can go 7km some others even more. That's along way a way.

Check out the "can i fly there" app. It's the best\easiest way to know where you can fly.

    • Its only shows sky roles, but not the ground.
I mean app shows u can fly but 90% of the time u cant by government law.

Don't know what you mean. It's not rocket science.

        1. Check the app if you can fly in the location.
        2. Check there are no signs saying you can't fly.
        3. Don't fly if people are within 30m.
        4. Don't flat at night.
        5. If you see an aircraft, land.
        6. Don't let your done go out of sight.
        7. Don't go higher than 120m.
        • My issue is Cannot fond a place in victoria that match this criteria.(unless drive 1 hr to some rural desert)

Problem with them is you can't use them in most urban areas. Better if you live in a regional zone as there are more fly zones without restrictions.

don't fly it high and far over the ocean.

    you will lose it.

    trust me.

    • I think its better to dont buy it

      • *not

Looking at the app - lots of area in Malvern,Camberwell, Brighton, Patterson Lakes, Dandenong, Ferntree Gully, Mooroolbark, Eltham, Hoppers Crossing, but the Greater Melbourne area is essentially no-go.
But unless you have a real reason for a drone it quickly become an expensive paperweight.

If you want to take it seriously you can get a RePL (licence), but it can be costly, I was lucky to get onto a government grant that paid for the majority of the cost.

Anywhere you like in Caulfield South! The bigger the drone and the more you hover over peoples homes the better ……..

Theres a lot of hysteria surrounding drones thanks to the media so people will tell you all sorts of things.

What I would do is subscribe to the FPV groups on facebook for the melbourne area. Those guys will be able to give you plenty of guidance on good spots to fly and might even meet up with you.

Sports reserves are great places to fly providing there are no people in your immediate surroundings.

if there is no where to fly it,why buy it,if you want some sport try buying a really good kite, see if there are any kite flying clubs around where you live if there is visit them and ask about joining etc, look at it this way,if the kite gets away from you no real problem, but if the drone gets away from you it can cost you real money in fines and it could cost you time in prison, not to forget, it takes more skill to fly kites whereas it doesn't take any skill to press buttons, for showing off purposes, a lot more males or females would take more notice in the kite than in drones, who knows you may even start up a kite club yourself with in in your local area..

    • Obviously you have never flown a drone before.

    • drones are kites for millenial kids.
