Panasonic Lumix FT3 $535 from JB HiFi

90

I've been watching this camera for awhile and it was released to stores pretty much with in the last 4 days

So it's expected to be pretty expensive I've hunted around and found Ryda selling it for $546 and was going to buy it when i popped in and asked JB HiFi how much. They are trying to sell it for $594 but I mentioned Ryda and was abit unsure on the price and the guy simply said hows $535 lol Sold

Now in my mind he FT2 is a great camera and better value but the main things in the new FT3 are:

The removal of the mode dial (it always got stuck between modes :(
1080 Video (underwater 1080 awsome :) )
12 Meters waterproof now
GPS, Barometer, Altimeter and Compass (for an avid outdoors person such as myself this is great the GPS is the main selling point for me when I'm hiking or snowboarding without having to match this up with my GPS logger. Haven't tested the accuracy of the Alimeter and Barometer but I have a Suunto Core watch I'll compare it with for those interested)

Not a huge amount of change for most but anyone with a FT2 will know the pain of the dial issue

  • oh i shop at hornsby as well lol :) and chatswood, macqaurie and belrose.

  • Did you look at the Olympus Tough TG-810?
    http://www.cnet.com.au/olympus-tough-tg-810-339310655.htm

  • I've used the Tough's in the past and they were beyond a joke in image quality

May have changed now but they left a bad taste in my mouth

Reading up on the differences some concerns with the Tough are the f/3.9 aperture vs the FT3's 3.3 and the FT3 can shoot 60 second exposures vs 4 seconds

Either way it still seems the tough series have issues in low light was always the case when i used them

  • how is the GPS speed? do you have to turn on the camera and wait for it to GPS to work?

  • GPS speed is very fast it continues to power the GPS when the camera is off there is a small light showign the GPS is in a low power mode normally has a 120m fix when i turn it on that goes down to 5m within seconds if im outside

DWI Website sell it for $432, it's the TS3 (just the reference change), here is the link:

    http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProd…

  • DWI is also Grey Stock and charges $40-$46.48 for shipping So at $472 the extra $60 is worth the local servicing if you have a faulty seal and these camera's are normally put through alot my old FT1 did have some seal issues and I was glad for the local support and not waiting weeks and paying $40 to send it to Hong Kong
