Has Anyone Gotten a Text after Comping That Was Sort of Weird?

I asked my boyfriend to enter two competitions for me. We got a text with no number (just a name) saying "We are looking for a (his last name) in (place of residence) regarding the selection of your name)

We don't want to click incase it's a scam or could get into the phone or something.

No "congrats" or "you have won!"

Has this happened to anyone before?

We don't want to click incase it's a scam or could get into the phone or something.

Clicking on a link itself on the mobile is pretty low risk (vs a computer).
If it's not what you expect, you can just close it.

Huh? The risk is about the same. Don't click it. At the very least, if you click it confirms to the scammer that people are taking their bait.

      • Nothing's impossible, but the chances of getting a virus from clicking a single link in a text message is pretty low. If it was easy, we'd all be screwed. You'd need a couple of more clicks to install something.

About the same as on a computer, no?

          • @abb: Now that I think about it, you're right… it's about the same! My bad!

Clicking a link on a phone could sign you up to invisible premium services

contact the company that ran the comp and ask them

  • Sort of. I bought an iPad on a plan at a local "phone/telecommunications" store and then started getting weird messages. I rang the store and asked to be taken off their SMS junk mail pool. Turns out, they didn’t have one and have never sent "after sales messages". The messages were coming from the girl who served me on the day.

There was about 5 or 6 messages with each getting more and more blunt as time went on. From "It was GREAT seeing you today…" to "Really enjoyed chatting the other day, If you need anything, let me know", to "I’m available any time you want to call. Any time is fine. This is my personal number you can reply to."

If you let it go on just a tad longer, I imagine it would've eventually gotten to: "u up? wyd?"

I would just reply and say do you do deliveries?

      Hahaha very nice how much?

Maybe they run an after hours service if ya know what i mean?

@pantsparty: Username checks out. It was over a year ago… and certainly not my type. Not my wife's type, either. Shame *loads_shotgun.gif*

@HighAndDry: I was tempted to send a 3am "My car wont start, wanna jump me?" pick up line. Worried I would have gotten a "OMG! yes!!"

@cheapjunkie: Hahaha… "Can you run some KFC over to my place?"

@aussieprepper: I think it was going above an beyond in the name of "customer service" and chasing KPI stats… :D

Haha exactly then when she shows up, open the door with the wife… grab the feed and say cheers… till next time! :D

    • Damn I am so salty this never happens to me.. probably because I never leave outside.

I get that all the time with customer service girls. I order something which needs picking up later. Wife picks it up and the cs keeps grilling her about where I am. Oh why couldn't he pick up item. Funny. Wife however thinks I flirt with them, but I don't. Well not intentionally. Just being me. I'm a nice guy.
