Nice! I like using sparesbox for all my car parts. Good site to look up specific vehicles and even harder to find ones. Would definitely recommend it over SCA or Repco.

The reviews for these guys seems to be mostly 1-star or 5-star reviews. https://www.productreview.com.au/p/spares-box.html Anybody here care to comment on their performance?

Don't forget that people tend to complain more than praise, so you will definitely read more complaints online most of the time. People who have bought from them and have had absolutely no problems at all won't have much to post about.

I ordered some wipers from them and received them. All was fine.

    • +1

I've used them in the past a couple of times. Once no problems the other they lied about stock they had. Had to wait 2 weeks for it to come into stock only for them to send me the wrong part. By the time they got that back the item was out of stock again. To their credit they did refund in full and it was easy to deal with them. Wouldn't hesitate ordering from them again, just be wary to items that are likely to sell out quick or not be very common. I suspect a lot of their items are 'order in' even though they state they are in stock.

    • I ordered a starter motor and after receiving it I realised it was very obviously a used part.

Called them up and exchanged a few emails but I did eventually receive a new starter motor, just took a bit longer than I had hoped.

      • Same happened to me but with some TRW brake pads. They asked for photos, then asked I send them back for exchange - and then they sent me the exact same pads I just sent back. Got a refund after that and I got to keep them at least.

Have bought a couple of other regular service items (fluids, filters, spark plugs, car wash, etc.) that have been fine.

      • Curious. How did you know the starter motor was used? Did it have scratches or something else?

        • +1

Scratched, covered in black smudges and dust. Let me see if i can find some photos I took for them.

        • +2

Here are the photos. This was straight out of the box.

            @Ten: Thanks

Do they have a habit of selling used parts? or just a once off?

            • @ATTS: I've only bought twice from them, the starter motor being the most recent.

Although when I called and told them about the situation I was advised that this does occasionally happen.

I almost feel like it may just be customers taking advantage of the "fit guarantee" and just mailing used parts back to them and getting a refund.

          • @Ten: Thank you for posting that. It sounds like a very dodgy company then. I'd probably just stick to repco or supercheap for my needs then.

    • Bought items which were advertised as in stock they never shipped and they gave me the run around. Customer service was also useless.

    • I've bought from them via their eBay store and it was fine. One package took 3 business days, the other took 4 business days.

      Ordered 3x

Once was an eBay 20% off thing. Took 5-6 weeks to receive an airfilter/oil filter for the most common Toyota engine. No communication/reasoning.

eBay messages went no where. Only got something through their facebook. They promised to complete the order but refund me (I thought it was worded weird). About a week later the items arrived…

    • Seems to be pot luck, i've had a good run and done orders for things like springs, shocks, brake rotors, brake pads etc and each time the order was on my doorstep in a few days and parts were always correct.

  • Is the "Meguiars Car Wash Snow Cannon Kit" any good?

    https://www.sparesbox.com.au/part/meguiars-car-wash-snow-can…

    edit:

Is there any cannons you can use with a normal hose not a petrol/electric pressure washer?

    • u need pressure to create foam, so no

  • +2

FYI for autoglym products - SCA are currently doing 30% off entire range.

  • +3

Not impressed. Just checked the hoses for my cooling system. With their 20% discount Sparesbox end up about 2% less than SCA at regular price. I'll wait for a 20% off SCA.

    • Nope…VW Golf NGK Platinum Plugs were $10 cheaper a set($95) at Repco's 30% off for motoring club members.

  • Cant find any disk rotors for my 2015 toyota kluger. It gives me a hundred diffrent model numbers. How do you choose the right one?

    • +1

I tried to search for my car Honda CR-V they also dont have it, your best bet is go to the manufacturer website and get the part no from there. I shop at Automotive Superstore, they seems to have more complete stuff and cheaper still compare to Sparesbox after their 20%

    • go to brakesdirect.com.au should sort you out no worries

    • I've also found automotive superstore to be more competitive and when I told my sparesbox nightmare, they actually discounted the price for me. They're generally my goto store for parts now

  • +3

Bought off them once, took around 3 weeks for delivery when everything was in stock. Would not recommend.

    • +1

I had the EXACT same experience. Was a complete time waste as they guaranteed they had stock when they didn't. Complete waste of time.

  • I've had really bad experiences buying from this store as they advertise stock but never have it. Their customer service doesn't really help either.

I wish they had a better system.

    • +1

This was my experience with them.

Took an extra month, but they did go through the effort of them sourcing the part and getting it to me lol…

  • Does this stack with their $20 off $100 spend birthday coupons?

    • yes it does

  • Cheapest I found. Thinking of these retro fit bulbs

    https://www.sparesbox.com.au/part/stedi-h4-led-headlight-con…

    $119

  • Already received an email for an "in stock" item that they need to wait 2 weeks for.

Definitely take their stock levels with a grain of salt.

  • This seems good considering nearly all the eBay sales seem to exclude automotive parts.

  • +2

There's a subscribe and get $10 off your first order over $100 offer on the front page.
I put my email address in and got a unique code within 5 mins. Stacks with the 20% off.

  • +2

You can use this code on all sale items it gets you $20 off when you spend $100 Code: BDAYA8D6

    • Thanks a lot, worked a treat. This coupon is the real deal :-)

    • i thought those codes were a 1 off

  • Would you guys install a $70 "high-flow" drop in filter just for some sound improvement on a forced induction engine?
Taking into consideration there is no performance gain and less filtering (more dirt get through when compared to stock paper filter - less than 10 microns in size)

    • No

    • +1

Me neither. Its really hard to improve over factory. Most aftermarket air filters provide no gains or make a loss, at best they trade off between benefits at low vs high RPM. I think there are a few comparison videos on YouTube comparing RPM and horsepower improvement across several brands of filters.

On a forced induction engine you aren't going to restrict your engine unless you have a crazy high output engine. At that point you are going to want to redesign the whole system. Eg. shape of the filter, location, ducting (RAM vs Cold Air), driving style (RPM range), etc.

If it were me I'd put the $70 toward an additional oil change or $20 more expensive tyres.
