Samsung 55 inch Series 7 NU7100 4K discussion

So with so many deals lately on this TV what's everyone's thoughts?

Set mine up last night and pretty impressed. Through the smart features I connected it to Netflix, Google Play movies and TV and Amazon Prime TV (which I've never bothered with before). I was pleasantly surprised to find that it also picked up the fetch box on the same network so I've got access to all the recordings on there too.

I ended up watching 3 episodes of the tick on prime TV as it said it was UHD. Looked great but not sure I'd be able to tell if it looked better than any other content.

I've also hooked the PS4 pro up and tried Horizon Zero Dawn which looked awesome.

All in all I'm not a TV connoisseur but I'm pretty blown away by how good it is for the price I paid ($670).

Anyone have any recommendations on what else I should do with it or settings I should tweak?

  • Turn off all the "eco" settins like local dimming and crap. Turn off all motion stuff.

  • Have you tried/had any problems with wifi connectivity? I've seen this review on the JB Hi Fi website:

"Picture and sound is great, but every time the TV is switched off the wifi disconnects. The only way to reconnect is to manually turn off and turn on the wifi at the router. This disconnects all features such as Netflix, Spotify, etc"

I'm keen to get it but concerned that this might be an issue.

Also, where the hecky did you get this for $670, that's a hectic bargain.

    • I'll check when I get home about the WiFi but that would be a massive pain if true.

To get it for $670 I used the Amex offer at Domayne for spend $750 or whatever it was and get $150 back. I got Harvey Norman to price match JB hi-fi at $795 and bought gift cards from Domayne.

So cost was $795 - $150 statement credit back bringing it to $645. Then paid $22 delivery bringing it to $667 all up.

      • Damn you are one savvy dude lol

    • Must be isolated case. Either faulty TV or incompatible Wi-Fi (old router?)
I bought 3 units at its original price $1k+ around July last year.
They're still going strong, no issues with Wi-Fi and Netflix. Bought another one last Monday, no issues.

My only problem is that this model doesn't support Samsung SmartThings - iOS/Android app that you can use to control your TV and automate stuff. The newer NU8000 model one has.

      • That's weird because when I started the TV up it prompted me to download the app to start the set up. I couldn't get it to recognise the TV, guess I know why now.

        • +1

Yeah took me a couple hours to find out that the app doesnt support the TV :( Got it from the Samsung Specs, SmartThings N/A 😂

    • Just got home, TV on standby and after turning it on it had no problem connecting to WiFi. Unplugged it at the wall, plugged it back in and again no issue connecting, was instantaneous.

      • Thanks for all the info brah, appreciate it. Same to brokenenglish. :)

  • Got one yesterday from JB for 795, happy with the IQ but a bit disappointed with motion handling which is very obvious when watching sports. I'm thinking of replacing this with the 55" NU8000 going for 1295 at the moment…

    • Let me know if you find any settings that help with the motion handling. Mines not hooked up to an antenna but might want to stream footy to it when the season starts

I've packed mine back up into the box and planning to return to JB tonight/tomorrow for a swap. My old 2011 1080 Samsung LED which I just sold never had these issues.

Have a look at Rtings for some settings you can try but I didn't have any luck reducing the motion without having excessive soap opera effect probably due to the fact that it's a 60Hz panel:

        • Just a bit of update.

I ended up replacing the NU7100 with the NU8000. After turning off all TV default judder/blur reduction settings, the motion handling appears to be much better than the NU7100.

The staff at JB also mentioned that he sold 2 units of the NU8000 on the day I brought my NU7100 back, and both buyers were initially wanting to buy the NU7100.

Final price was $1269, after a bit of "negotiation". Happy chappy now.
